33 gallons of maple syrup.what would you do

Sugar, and all about sugar washes. Where the primary ingredient is sugar, and other things are just used as nutrients.

33 gallons of maple syrup.what would you do

Post by dukethebeagle120 »

Up here in the communist republic of quebecistan aka quebec we have a syrup union.
Your not supposed to sell without going through the union.
We sent a barrel of syrup to the union and it was refused.
It was cloudy.
My dad offered to let me have it for"cooking"
So now what???
its better to think like a fool but keep your mouth shut, then to open ur mouth and have it confirmed

Does cloudy Maple Syrup taste different to whats on offer here??????
Most people that I know have never been to countries that make the stuff so wouldn't have a clue....a lot of people have never even tasted the stuff for that matter. Isn't it funny how we all think that we all get and have tasted all things????

Never used it for distilling its far too expensive here but I imagine it could be used like agave syrup to make a tequila/mezcal like spirit.

I'm not lucky enough to have that matter but if I had I would try to ferment and then distill as a wine so trying to maximize flavors. So dilute to OG appropriate, ferment and distil.

Cloudy syrup is when the sap got to hot before it is boiled.
The sap which is clear turns milky and is on its way to become sour.
It taste as good as any other
Its is not desirable for table use because of its appearance

+1 I agree with Demy.

Make a wash with a 5% target abv. Use a bakers yeast. Step feed over a couple days. Treat it like an agave nectar ferment & see what happens. Either that or start making piles of pancakes. 😎
🎱 The struggle is real and this rabbit hole just got interesting.
Per a conversation I had with Mr. Jay Gibbs regarding white oak barrel staves: “…you gotta get it burning good.”

Sorry buddy, it's rubbish. You're just going to have to cut your losses and send it down to me in NZ.
I'll do you a favour and even pay shipping.

I say yes to most free fermentables I'm offered and worry about what I'm going to make with it when it's in my shed.

I would treat it like making a style of rum I've never made before, making decisions using my senses as I went, maybe starting with a double distilled white designed for drinking young, then deciding what to do with the backset and feints for the next generations. While the first generation is fermenting, I'd be researching every resource I could find.

If you like sweet drinks, liqueurs and sherry/port styles using the pot stilled spirits, or the clarified wine, sweetened with the syrup might be worth experimenting with.

Yaw, if you see the cost of little bottles on the shelf at the supermarket I'd still say it's worth it!
That is, if there's any boats going to be able to keep floating...

I use my homemade maple syrup to flavor batches of neutral. Just because it taste so good...

But 33 gallons is a lot just for flavoring neutral made of sugar washes.
Shit I bought but shouldn't have :
1. Amazon 30L pot distiller
2. T-500 reflux column (good product but expensive)
3. Large 60L stock pot + 2" column

Now using 15.5gal KEG + 5500w electric + fully aircooled reflux condensor and product condenser.

Pancakes, waffles, crepes....
It's a shame to waste maple syrup by distilling it.
But if you must.. Some kind of rum seems like it might suit.

Shame to distill something that good. sell it on the black market and buy several years supply of commercial booze. Or feel free to send 5 gallons down my way. I will sent you 5 gal of honey in return.

It's funny B grade syrup to me tastes a lot better then A grade! I have had both side by side and B grade has that more maple flavor in it. I don't care if its cloudy I care about taste! More maple the better!

$hit most people get the synthetic stuff anyway and don't know what the good stuff tastes like! Same goes for honey now also.

Is it cloudy or sugar sand? Sugar sand is super fine sand that's gets I to things. Can't filter it but in time if falls to the bottom, then siphon the clear off the top and you have top notch product.

Also watch for buddy syrup/sap its nasty if you ever got it.
