Been lurking for months. Trying to find a proven method to test a copper boiler which was given to me. How do I prove they didn't use lead solder. I have soldered many a copper pipe, but just wanna hear the experts on this. I can post a picture if needed.
Thanks for ALL the info folks...UJSM when I'm sure...wife is really not happy...

Lead solder...old still.
If you're gonna be dumb, you better be tough.
Re: Lead solder...old still.
Im not your expert but you can pick up your lead test at Lowes or Home Depot.
Re: Lead solder...old still.
How old is it. They was usein solder with lead in it in
house water lines in 70s. Melts quicker. Most old school
round here still got leaded solder in em. Look on inside.
you see any solder. Get a mirror in there an look good.
If it a good made outfit it don't need solder.

Goose, issue is that hit alcohol vapour will bring the lead into solution.
Re: Lead solder...old still.
Crazy thing about lead test kits: lowes and Home Depot don't sell them in Canada. Crazy huh?
Re: Lead solder...old still.
I understand vapor. Was the outfit double crimped or
is solder holding it together. Run so water an test the water.
A metal Smith don't need solder. Post a picture.

Sorry I didn't know you were in Canada. Order on line.

Perhaps dedicated paint stores would have lead test kits... Unless certified lead testers are all the rage and the only option in your area...
