Lead solder...old still.

Post by Axdelmar »

Been lurking for months. Trying to find a proven method to test a copper boiler which was given to me. How do I prove they didn't use lead solder. I have soldered many a copper pipe, but just wanna hear the experts on this. I can post a picture if needed.

Thanks for ALL the info folks...UJSM when I'm sure...wife is really not happy...

How old is it. They was usein solder with lead in it in
house water lines in 70s. Melts quicker. Most old school
round here still got leaded solder in em. Look on inside.
you see any solder. Get a mirror in there an look good.
If it a good made outfit it don't need solder.

Goose, issue is that hit alcohol vapour will bring the lead into solution.

Crazy thing about lead test kits: lowes and Home Depot don't sell them in Canada. Crazy huh?

Perhaps dedicated paint stores would have lead test kits... Unless certified lead testers are all the rage and the only option in your area...
