Caulk usage

Post by South Cackalackian »

I've a simple question. I just installed a spigot on my 30 gal fermenter, and i am looking for a decent way to seal up the leak. Ive considered using caulking that I have around, but I'm wary of trying it and getting some shit in my mash.
Is there a food grade silicone I can buy, or am I overcautious?

Much obliged, SC

There are silicone seals suitable for food, sometimes plastic taps are sold with nitrile seal

I’d agree Cob , despite this being used in a fermenter where ordinarily HPDE and food grade silicone are quite acceptable with Teflon being the preferred option , Caulk would be a very dubious choice . No way I’d trust it.

Sorry no science to back that . Just a bad feeling . Too many Caulks to choose from . You might get lucky …. you and your loved ones might not .
