personal.

]muffled laughter]

20 fermenters and 100 gallons of low wines.

must be a really enthusiastic hobbiest. sounds pretty normal to me.
I finally quit drinking for good.

now i drink for evil.

Not even a large personal operation.... :lolno:
Most of the low wines would be feints I would imagine.

Heck I’ve got about six xarboys full of low wines and feints plus a couple backset. Looks conspicuous as hell. Then there’s the wine!

Cheers,

That ain't us and we should be able to say so. We ply our merry little hobby for personal enjoyment only. Some move on to become legal craft distillers. But we dont mass produce sugar washes to sell from the back of pickups or outta stump holes. Trouble is we're afraid to talk about our hobby in public or differentiate ourselves from bootleggers 'cause we're afraid of the law. Shouldn't be that way.

Just move to New Zealand, we don't have these sorts of issues here.

It does look a tiny bit as though it might be a "fair cop" to me -

What price is a bottle of shop bought in NZ john ? - has legalization killed the tax - take - or does it just go on alongside ?

Just seems odd that this is the only food or drink that you are prohibited by law from cooking !

A 1L bottle of cheap spirits - probably about US$25. A half decent bottle of scotch, twice that. A nice bottle, three times. Same excise duty on all though.

No, since legalisation, the tax take on liquor has not dropped, I believe it has risen as consumption has risen. People generally do not avail themselves of this freedom to distil. They buy what is readily available, just like people buy veges from the store even though they could grow their own.

The government also earns 15% as a sales tax on all items used to make a still and on ingredients used, so they still get to clip the ticket even on ‘tax free’ home distilled liquor. They’re doing ok.

Interestingly, when making your own spirits was legalised, wine and beer were already legal, but with volume restrictions. Curiously, volume restrictions were not imposed on spirits when that we added to the legislation. There is a 100L/month limit on beer and a 45L/month limit on wine... no limit on spirits. Shhh.

What’s with the keystone camo cop with the axe?
Secured the lids on the barrels so they can roll ‘em out and whack ‘em with the axe.

A few dramatic whacks for the still too, just like the old days I guess.

And judging by all those empty plastic jugs laying around they seem to have had a bit less respect for the ground water than those fellas cleaning up that rickhouse collapse.

Shows the mindset we’re up against.

Beekeepers actually buy sugar like that. I could see 1 pallet consisting of 12*6 bags with 25lb sugar each. That's 0.8 metric ton in that one pallet. The other pallet only had 24 bags left. So we'll over a ton of refined white sugar.

Isn't hfcs cheaper in bulk?

They probably saved 5 gal to run some thru the lab then the other will be dealt with dependin on lab tests. Party's an such. You'll find they save more brandy than sugar shine course It also depends on the bootlegger .

Bet you could smell likker for miles if there was a breeze
