The 1920s era is also known for its fashion sense. It wasn't only used for glamour, but also as a functional accessory. In this case, moonshiners wore "cow shoes" to hide their identity. These pieces of wood fixed to the bottoms of their shoes made their footprints look like hoof prints.
I finally quit drinking for good.

“Bling” for your wingtips!

And nothing says, “moonshiner” like a wool pinstripe suit!

A little history I was not aware of. I remember side ties in the 60’s.

Down here in southeast louisiana cow hooves raise suspicion... but we aint never had alot of revenoors.

Cool af tho, males me think of the kid in dick tracy driving with the blocks strapped to his feet.

I reckon wearing wolverine boots like every dwf agent/game warden is the best footprint coverup here. Anybody see them they run!

I'm so disappointed that the thread was not about cows wearing lace up shoes

I’m with Swedish. That is what I was thinking when I read the title.

Cool shoes.

I believe you will possibly find that the prices for a leather shoe is pretty much like the cost now for a high quality leather shoe, the same with suit, if you had inflation / salary / buying power adjusted at the time. Those people had high-quality clothes back then, but not all-they could have their daily shoes and their best shoes.

I believe that it is a big factor that was built up in the shoe industry (if sneakers were designed to make oxford leather, the prices would drop shortened.) and the leather was possibly much more economical than the low regulations (basically throw the cows anywhere you want to grase)

Im kind of disappointed that the shoes arent white and black like a Holstein or have any "extra" cow parts on there. I could probably hit up the slaughter house for some feet and tell them its for the dogs but I dont think my wife would like me F26-ing cow parts to her work shoes.

I can imagine the laughter on the revenoors faces when they are looking at the two legged cow patterns .
Did these moonshiners actually think they were fooling anyone .
