Re: What is everyone drinking?
Thats a cool idea NZChris . I like it . Does it have a trend ..IE a Whisky bottle or a Rum bottle ...or do you just mix all random stuff into it ...Iff’n that the case , it sure sounds like a constant suprise .
Tonight, here , GnT’s followed by Margorita , Red wine , now Mrs Yummys gone for “Brown stuff “ ( her name for HBS Whisky essense flavoured Nuetral )... her favourite ,not mine . I’m back on the GnTs
Might be time for a Rum soon
Forgive me , just had the inlaws here for a week

My only rule is that I don't put anything in it that tastes bad, or doesn't match.

Re: What is everyone drinking?
It's mostly grain and molasses, but anything ok goes in it. E.g. Some commercial 12 year old coconut liquor that mostly had flavors from used barrels was nice, but lacked much of it's own character went in. Quite a few commercial whiskey bottles have been emptied into it. A lot of the leftovers from doing cuts end up in it.
Dregs and wood when emptying a demijohn of aging liquor usually go into another demijohn of aging liquor, my version of solera style aging.

Re: What is everyone drinking?
I started something similar recently with a bit of 50/50 corn and whiskey and some all corn whiskey that wouldn't fit in the bottles. It is pretty tasty.NZChris wrote: ↑Sat Apr 17, 2021 12:30 am A sample of the Whatever Jar. Very nice. It's quite a few years old now and contains leftover products from home distillers and commercials. It's a 5l bottle to which I add various samples and leftovers that I have been given, or made, and occasionally pour a drink from. I occasionally add another used oak stave. I aim to keep it about 2/3 full to allow for some O2 in the head space.
The oldest product I've put in it was already 12 years old, but I wasn't impressed with it. Blended and aged with everything else that has gone into the Whatever Jar, it is only a small % of the whole, but it will be adding to it.
Tonight I am sipping some commercial burbon that is pretty good. I can't remember the name.

Tequila Silver and PBR. My wife chases her takillya with pickle juice. She swears by it. Anyone else heard of this?

Absolutely. Pickle juice was the go-to chaser for me and my buddies when we were young. It'll kill the taste of anything. ANYTHING.Stonecutter wrote: ↑Wed Apr 21, 2021 4:16 pm Tequila Silver and PBR. My wife chases her takillya with pickle juice. She swears by it. Anyone else heard of this?
Plain ole pot rig.
Re: What is everyone drinking?
In college we'd chase cheap tequila shots with Hawaiian Punch to kill the taste but like a fine rum or whiskey, I've aged to appreciate a good sipping tequila.Stonecutter wrote: ↑Wed Apr 21, 2021 4:16 pm Tequila Silver and PBR. Re: What is everyone drinking?
My two-month old apple brandy. It's not aged anywhere near enough, but I finally got around to toasting some oak, and I moved it to a smaller container to improve the contact with the wood. This left a shot glass worth which wouldn't quite fit and I wasn't about to pour it down the drain.
At 65% it was a little strong so I added a little water. It's a little headsy, there's a prickle on the lips and a burn at the back of the throat. Nice mouth feel with just enough oiliness. The apple is still more on the nose than on the tongue, and even there it's faint.
Still... I made it and it's drinkable. So that's a nice first. Coming on the back of a year of finally having fruit wines mature enough to suddenly become very drinkable I'm pretty happy with the situation. Although that might just be the effect of 65% abv!

My own Jackman methol liquor. It take take the tickle out of any cough and warms the sole.
Made with 150g of Jackman's methol throat and cough sweets and 700ml of 40% proofed neutral and left until it's all desolved. I actually dishwashed mine at 60* to speed this up.
Very drinkable and soon forget you even had a cough or a throat. [emoji38]

Well I’ll be damned. I just can’t get myself to get on board. But then again I’ve aged as well. I like the taste of booze

Right this moment, I'm drinking coffee. It's an italian blend that SWMBO picks up. Almost as good as the coffee I used to get in Germany. Not quite espresso but I'm feeling too lazy to break out the machine and grind the beans this morning. Yall have a great day.

My first rum is 5 years old today. Still a bit tailsy, but vastly improved since last I sampled it.

I was sipping some commercial burbon tonight.
I really need to find some molasses to make an all molasses rum.
