...(So You Don't Die Drinking Them)

"In all honesty, some of this stuff could kill you. In fact, on Page 154, you'll find out that, yes, some home distillers were desperate enough to try making alcohol from sawdust"

Not endorsing the book as I have never read it, but found the article entertaining. Enjoy.

I tend to look skeptically at historic retrospectives...it's too easy to put on a pair of tinted glasses when looking back in time. What I mean by that is, it's unlikely that an historic author will not be prejudice by the social and political ( or PC) views of our own times. I had a verbal "go" with an Historian at a beer club meeting in south Jersey, several years ago. He was giving a speech and believed that Colonial beer was unhopped. I asked him why were Washington, Franklin and Jefferson, among other US Founding Fathers, were growing and cross breeding European hops with local native hops, if it was not for beer brewing? He didn't believe they were...even though it's well documented that they did. Turns out he was anti-alcohol. Just saying...good read, but beware of the authors "tinted Glasses."
