Lime Cordial

Post by Bushman »

My wife likes gin gimlets. Rose’s Lime juice costs $4.99 in my store for an 8 oz bottle. Found the following recipe on Line ad made a batch today. Lots of gin makers here so thought I would share it.

Lime Cordial
* 250g sugar
* 8 oz/240 ml hot water
* 1½ oz/45 ml fresh lime juice (measured by volume)
* 1½ oz/45 ml freshly grated lime peel (measured by volume)
* 1 oz/30 ml citric acid (measured by volume)

1. Combine all of the ingredients in a blender.
2. Blend on medium speed for 30 seconds.
3. Strain with a fine strainer.
4. Bottle and refrigerate.

I loves me some lime. I'll have to give it a shot sometime soon.

Flash for past Bush I for got about Roses Lime. It was a staple for gin drinks back in the 70's. Going to have to make this up as the summer is soon rolling in.

Just tried it and it’s good not as sweet as Roses so a slight adjustment might be needed.

Not as sweet sounds like a plus to me. I remember customers saying to me go light on the lime. Roses was a thick and sweet but the chicks liked it.

Thanks for sharing, Bushman.

My lime tree has going strong and the neighbors are tired of me bringing surplus by (unless I got a pitcher of something good) and we can only eat so many lime pies.

I'm on it.

One of my wife’s favorite pies is Key lime pie.

I posted this in another thread but I put a bottle size of Roses Lime Juice (12 oz) in an empty fifth bottle then fill it the rest of the way with Gin. This equals the proper parts in making a glass of gimlet. I then keep it in the refrigerator so the drinks are ready on demand.
To the recipe above I found that after it sits in the fridge it is a bit foggy but doesn’t effect the taste. I filtered it and added an additional 2 Tbs of simple syrup I had in the fridge already and it made it a bit sweeter and tasting more like the gimlet made with Roses. All in all turned out pretty good.

I love Rose's but it is to sweet for me. Going to try this Sugar Free with Stevia.

Thank you

That is a lot like the recipe I've been making from Jeffery Morganthaler. I met him once at a book signing in Eugene. This works great in his Gimlet recipe and is good as a small addition to a Margarita. I'll never use Roses when this recipe is superior and easy to make.

Thanks for resurrecting this thread. Now that spring is right around the corner this will make a good boat drink.
