It's possible for some, but not worth it....
During my last visit here I said a few things that I do regret, but I was also attacked before I could explain my set up as well. But that is in the past so it's time to move forward. I can make fuel for my lawn equipment with what I have, but not for my flexfuel vehicle in which I only have one. I would need at least one 55 gallon drum and I'd have to make at least 4 runs with a 3 inch reflux distilling tower before I'd see about a tank's worth of fuel for that monster. Now the only way you can produce fuel economically, is to get waste products from beverage companies which I was going to do. Then the first problem occurred. A local softdrink plant was going to give me some waste product called "sugar water" which is carbonated water and various types of sugar (corn and pure cane sugars) that are already dissolved and mixed. All I had to do was add turbo yeast (fuel is all that turbo yeast is good for imo) and allow it to ferment. The problem is that I can only haul four 55 gallon drums at a time and only once a week. They wanted me to be there 3 times a week and I had to take 8 instead of 4 which is not possible for me. The second problem came when a company that carried something called zeolite decided not to carry it and this is desperately needed in fuel production because unless you plan on running strait alcohol/ethanol and not mixing gasoline with it, then you can get along fine without it. Otherwise you can't have any moisture in the alcohol/ethanol. It must be pure alcohol/ethanol and this stuff helped acheive that. The only way I can get it now is in tons. The final straw came when I got a propane distributor to stop by. It would cost me 2 month's income to get what I would need in both the propane tank and propane gas. Now they do make a burner that can run off natural gas if you have access to it which would help some, but I don't have that resource. Here's the burners that I was looking at:

My final conclusion is that it's possible for some people that have access to the resources that I mentioned earlier and have a little extra money, but it's not worth it or practical for someone like me who has limited abilities, and almost impossible for those that really don't have enough income to keep doing it. Recycling waste products from the beverage industries into alcohol/ethanol fuel is a good idea, but there are some things that do need to be addressed which can be worked out.

For me it was a decision based apon my physical limitations, not having enough equipment, and not having enough money to buy the nessecary equipment that I would've need to pull this off. So I figured it was best to use what I have and stay on the small scale and enjoy the hobby of home distilling.

Some things we all gotta just learn for ourselves. Be glad we werent a firearm forum, that could of been bad. Thanks for the update and sharing. My brother has a water heater setup for diesel using fryer grease. Getting the grease turned out more tedious than he thought. Never made enough to pay for his investment but he had fun building it and proving he could do it! Enjoy.

It got pretty brutal in here during my last visit and he was saying that this forum and most of its members doesn't hold any grudges towards me.lampshade wrote:Might want to explain that statement.ga flatwoods wrote:Be glad we werent a firearm forum, that could of been bad.

That's a nice burner, but unfortunately I don't have access to natural gas at my location or in my area. I need to see about that for heat this winter because natural gas is about 10 times cheaper than propane could ever hope to be.Stainless dude wrote:This is the natural gas burner that I use. http://www.amazon.com/Bayou-Classic-BG1 ... gas+burner" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow

If it has to do with ethanol it has already been done here no matter what form you want to make. You will find as you stay here and learn there are way smarter folks than all of us that came before us and laid out the practices that truly work. Welcome back and now you can have fun with it.

Yep that is indeed true. I intend to have alot of fun with this hobby. In fact I did submit a recipie and I think Tater might be trying it out. I bet he'll steal that one, L.O.L.wv_cooker wrote:If it has to do with ethanol it has already been done here no matter what form you want to make.
