Re: 30 gallon copper pot
thanks rat, i should have figured it would be the same as my other copper pieces. Smoky, that's why i built a bigger pot. 30 gallon, the limit here on HD so i wouldn't have to make multiple runs in one day. And honestly i never have enough free time to make more than one run at any given time. But i do see where you are coming from. I plan on using the 60 gallon blue plastic barrel fermenter i built a couple 3 years ago.

Try using a soft dough rather than flour paste.
Include a bit of salt to help develop the gluten when mixing, also some olive oil for softness and 'handle-ability'.
Roll it into a 'rope', let it rest a bit covered in plastic, do it again, thumb it into place...
Not difficult to remove later.

Re: 30 gallon copper pot
I make a thick sticky paste and apply liberally.
If making multiply runs, I just crack it open, put it back, and apply more paste.
When all is done, I just rinse it out with water and put it away messy. The flour paste will dry out and become very brittle, easy to chip off just before next run.

Shouting and shooting, I can't let them catch me...

On my cleaning runs i used your recipe for paste. I found when i pressed it in the edges wanted to roll, but with a wet finger i could smooth it right out. Made for a nice seal. The Baker wrote: ↑Wed Mar 10, 2021 4:06 pm Try using a soft dough rather than flour paste.

Did you put the bottom on using the welsh seam?ezlle71 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 22, 2021 7:31 am 0633B831-F8AE-45DE-9CBB-2D19C7C358D2.jpeg
20oz copper, 2inch spacing on rivets. 3/16 copper rivets.
1 1/2 inch Lap joint on the side. For the seat for the cap at the top I used a Welsh seam which came out real well. Gotta make the cap, and install boiler drain and element bung. Will get more pics soon. Have really enjoyed this build so far.
18 inch diameter 28 inches to bottom of cape
Re: 30 gallon copper pot
I used 2 pieces of 3/4in plywood cut into circles for mandrels. Annealed and tapped a 3/4 in lip around the bottom piece. Then 3/16 rivets every 2 inches and soldered. If I had it to do over I think I might have used a welsh seam on the bottom

Re: 30 gallon copper pot
Ran about 28 gallon of corn mash all grain thru this pot this weekend. Ran beautifully and i am real happy with having all copper. With a single 5500 watt element It was about 1.5-1.75 hrs warm up to first drips.
