Scored a couple more!
Good day all!
I managed to score a couple more kegs! The smaller one will soon be converted into a thump keg and the other...not sure yet...but pondering the idea of a secondary boiler..but we'll see.

I find the bigger/ more stills I have, the more low wine containers I need. And storage vessels for bulk aging. 15 gallons is good to collect into for stripping, and 5 gallons are good for storing up enough while you prepare to fill a barrel.
To hell with large (several gallons) glass containers. Just some food for thought before you cut them up

A electric boiler with drain just for mash water on a stand with the drain at fermenter height has become my favorite use for a keg even over low wines storage, ageing vessel or thumper.

Thanks for sharing your method by the way SCD! I didnt even modify the top just added the element and drain, no controller, 220v. A waterhose in the top and a 3/4" wood dowel with holes drilled to mark every gallon for measuring. My back thanks you sir.ShineonCrazyDiamond wrote:jb-texshine wrote:A electric boiler with drain just for mash water on a stand with the drain at fermenter height has become my favorite use for a keg even over low wines storage, ageing vessel or thumper.

All those are fantastic ideas! Now to figure out which one(s) to utilize! Before long I'm ordering an out building...it's like a shed but looks more like a mini cabin...just right for a man cave/still house. When that shows up I'll have plans ready for where all this hardware will go.

I have two cut out like this, works great for mashing or heating water, I also have one set up as an electric boiler. I also have a short 7.5 gallon that I use to age whiskey in. So many ways to use them.
