PTFE Thread tape

Post by scmoose »

Planning on making a cardboard gasket wrapped in PTFE tape as described in one of the threads I searched for on the site. My question is are all PTFE thread tape created equal. I have a bunch of it, but its Yellow and marked Poly-Temp GAS, but its says its PTFE?

PTFE is PTFE they come in different grades. Here is what I found through a Google search
Tape Grade, Color and Density
Thread tape comes in different colors for different uses.
White tape is single density and intended for water pipes of 3/8 of an inch or less. It can sometimes be found in a silver color to match the pipes.
Red tape is triple density, for pipes one-half inch to 2 inches in diameter. It is designed for pipes with larger joints, such as water distribution pipes. Note that the container is red, but the tape itself looks pink.
Yellow tape is double density, and designed for gas and fuel lines.
Green tape is grease and oil free, and designed for pipes carrying oxygen.
Please note that these tape colors refer to specifications in the United States only.

I've got some 1" blue teflon tape that works well and is a nice size for what I need. I purchased that on Amazon.

Cheers!

Just a tad too thick for my liking.

Mod Edit : I have saved and added your pics as attachments direct to HD forum

please do the same in future using the “attachment” option at the bottom . don’t use tapatalk or other external picture hosting places as these links all eventually stop working rendering many topics useless.

Stick to the white stuff, but whatever you do, avoid the grey stuff. It has Nickel in it.
