1 day CCVM build

Post by savagedavid »

I was at my stainless steel supplier and I noticed a bit of 2" stainless pipe offcut that already had a tee piece welded on. Picked it up for around $10 so decided to try a CCVM build (since that is what one does when confronted with a deal like this). I already had a length of 1" which I used for the outside of the PC, and I found an offcut of 1/2" pipe for the inside. Okay so the rest of the bits rocketed up the price significantly from that initial $10 investment, but I am very please with the results considering from start to end took just under a day. All I need now is a reflux coil and I am ready to try it out.

Great find!

What do you plan to pack it with? With all that SS, I might suggest copper mesh or copper scrubbers.

you might find your height above take off a bit short. it is true that you do not need a long coil but you want it correct below take off to make 100% reflux at a certain heat input and when you are in hearts with a raised coil to have enough shell above take off not to loose vapour... but you will be happy with the ccvm... simple to build and simple to drive.

If that is the case it should be very easy to add another TC and an extra 100mm or so of pipe. I'll have to see how it goes.
