In Missouri however, calling someone a hoosier is derogatory and equates to someone less than desirable.
A person who puts their 3rd car up on blocks in the driveway is a hoosier.
Play music loudly at 2am and whoop when a "Skynyrd!" song comes on? You are a hoosier.
Use your car horn as an extended means of communication? Hoosier.
This is a cookie recipe that has floated through the St. Louis area since I was a kid. It's simple and cheap
and designed for the low class baker who usually has a Marlboro dangling from their mouth while they cook.
Thus, this recipe has been dubbed...
Christmas Hoosier Cookies
MIX
2 cups sugar
1 cup butter melted (2 sticks)
2 eggs
1 cup buttermilk
ADD
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp almond extract
1 tsp vanilla
6 cups flour (add last)
Mix it all up and chill for 1 hour

Roll out
Cut 1/4-inch thick cookie cutter shapes
Grease cookie sheet
Bake 375ºF (190°C) for 11 minutes
Cool and decorate

1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 tablespoon milk
tint with food coloring
