CotC: Physics of Double Retort Pot Stills and Thumpers

Post by Single Malt Yinzer »

From "Chemistry of the Cocktail" (cocktailchem.blogspot.com): Good for beginners to familiarize themselves with the subject. It's key to the rum flavor profile for old school rums. He has another article discussing other aspects of the subject coming out soon.

While he has a lot of tasting reviews he has many technical posts. Spend some time there, lots of good stuff.

Cool site, SMY.

In my past feeble attempts to understand the progression of dynamics between a pot and thumper during a run, I never considered the influence volume-to-headspace in the thumper has on the transfer of alcohol and energy.

One more variable to include when designing a volume-temperature-heat strategy to overcome smearing.

Thanks for sharing.
