PTFE sheets.

Post by RocketSurgeon »

I am sourcing PTFE sheets for my fido clamp-lid jars. The USPlastic 3.5 inch disks are too small.

I've scoured the forum, but have only found one recommendation for 4 inch square sheets, which provided an Amazon link...now dead.

I want to use the sheets with the lid seal in place, with the sheet underneath the seal, between the seal and the product.

I am seeking advice on a reasonable thickness of sheet.

The first Amazon link below offers 50 5 x 5 sheets for $25, but they are only 0.0039 inch (0.1mm) thick, which seems a little thin.
The second has sheet in a roll which is twice as thick.

Mostly I'd like feedback on an appropriate thickness, as the fido lids clamp tightly with the stock seal in place.

I'd appreciate any opinions from users of similar products...or additional sources if available.

Thanks

They fit perfect under the Ball Reusable Wide Mouth Food Storage Lids. FYI

Righto. I use them for the ball jars as well. Thanks.

I also use them under the standard Ball lid. I don't think being too thin is an issue, possibly makes them better. It's possible the product I bought is no longer out there, but I'd suggest you keep looking and possibly cut your own if necessary.

For a seal I’d try to get expanded PTFE if you can. Thin stuff good as an alcohol barrier in a mason jar…

I use fido clamp lid jars. I just wrap the gasket that comes with them in PTFE plumbers tape. Very easy and works great.

I'll give the 0.004 sheets a try, and post the results.

Thanks for the input.

Be sure to order the .04 sheets.

I have 0.3mm sheets (Chinese-based ebay supplier), which work pretty well, I think. They are quite thin. That is about 0.012 inch, so I reckon 0.004 will be extremely thin.

I received the 0.1mm (0.004) sheets, and they are perfect. They are thin enough to clamp and seal nicely when used in conjunction with the original rubber seal that comes with the jars. They are tough, and will be durable. They are 5 in. x 5 in., which provides plenty of overlap. One could easily trim them if desired...using a jar lid of the desired size. Couldn't be happier.
