15 gallon NEW or Used barrels...$125

Post by RocketSurgeon »

I stumbled upon a forum post wherein the poster mentioned a Seattle distiller who chooses to distill in 15 gallon barrels...

OOLADISTILLERY.COM
6235 AIRPORT WAY S
SEATTLE, WA 98108
206-709-7909

I inquired as to price, and was pleasantly surprised:
Single use bourbon barrel: $125
Brand new barrel: $125

For me, this eliminates shipping costs which are prohibitive.

Enjoy.

I've got three of theirs, very good!
It's a whole lotta work to fill one of them with a hobby sized setup.
But worth it!

They sound like a great deal, used barrels of that size here in AU are like rocking horse poop, and if you do find one its double that price.

With my hobby set up, I’d have to do 36 ferments, 72 stripping runs, and 9 spirit runs - all of the same recipe, just to fill one of those 15G barrels. I’ll stick to 5G Gibbs & glass jars and jugs. 😎
🎱 The struggle is real and this rabbit hole just got interesting.
Per a conversation I had with Mr. Jay Gibbs regarding white oak barrel staves: “…you gotta get it burning good.”

That has been my experience too. And you have to accept a 53 gal or similar barrel, or a series of 5 gallon ones, which would not last long with the neighbors I have. The real beauty for me me is the local pickup to avoid shipping. Shipping for me doubles the price.

I'd prefer 10 gallons, but these are almost too good to be true.

Did you buy new or used?

Three of the once used Bourbon barrels.
BTW if you can afford it I higly recommend their Waitsburg Bourbon.
It's a fine drink.

And if you arent up to filling a 15 gallon barrel, Pursuit Distillery will sell you a once used 5 gallon barrel for $50. They'll even let you pick the barrel you want. ( I like to sniff them and read the barrel tag to see the previous fill details)
There is a catch though, you have to pick them up at the distillery. They will not ship them. I currently have 2, and will be buying a 3rd this fall when I get enough made to fill it.

Living in the PNW these are good deals. Do you know if the used are once filled or reused multiple times?

Back when I got mine from Oola they said once used, freshly dumped.

Agreed. They say they are one-time use...used for bourbon.

Pursuits are all once used. There are barrels that "Barrel Club" members didn't want after bottling their bourbon.
