“Quick Step! March”!

I'm reminded that back in the 1960s my parents had an LP album of 'British Marching band' music; that I would listen to occasionally. It occurs to me that the music on the LP (which was carefully recorded then) sounded much better than what can be found on YouTube today. Of course the musicians in those military bands back in the 60's were probably the grandfathers of today's band members too.

For those that might not know; there is a famous annual presentation of this type of music, that invites military bands from around the world to preform. A friend of mine attended a few years ago and called the event excellent. The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo has been called off for 2021 – due to the Wuhan virus.

Garyowen” is an Irish “quick-step” that many might recognize – and dates from the 1680s.
<also>
'They Died With Their Boots On'

------
Finally there is this: I just listened to the first couple songs, but I'm not about to sit still for the whole 4 hours. A complete list of the 106 individual marches is contained under the “Show More” button.

The Greatest British Marches (Un-blocked Edition)
We went to the Edinburgh Military Tattoo a few years back. Fantastic.

There's several good saxophonist on the radio these days. (David Sandborn, Candy Dulfer, Dave Koz, Gerald Albright, Mindy Abair & Richard Elliot are some of the more noteworthy). In the right hands a sax can be a very communicatory instrument.

I prefer these two sax pieces, over a whole bunch of others that I've listened to lately. Below: Deep Blue is unusually “up-beat” for a jazz sax tune; I believe is one of the most expressive sax songs to be found...

Deep Blue · Richard Elliot

I Believe – Dave Koz

Headphones. Eyes closed. Focus on the music coming out of the jukebox. Dialogue rains down softly on dying ears.

No music.
Took the computer to my son's house.
He blew clouds of dust out of it, and replaced a dead fan with one he salvaged from an old computer.
Works faster now, I think.
Dunno why.
But no sound and a screen that says the speaker is not connected.
I will have to re-check to see if there is an unconnected cable.
Didn't see one but I will have to get under the desk with a torch, check all the cables and connections.

We have sound.
I pulled the speaker connector out of the socket and poked it into the one next to it!

The roles are reversed in this household. At least I am the computer nerd and the son drives over to my house to get his computers tuned up.. A technologist for almost 50 years now; yet I am an old, archaic fossil and behind the times of modernity. Because I refuse to use or to rely upon Chromium-based browsers, modular phones, online banking, Windows 10, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram and numerous other social media crap. I don't trust 'Big Tech' as far as I can spit and never did. Not with important items like my own time, money, intellectual property or personal privacy.

I'd rather take a whupping than to get down on my hand and knees to work with that rat's nest of wires under my own computer desk. Getting down there is almost as much chore as getting back up. Its called rheumatism.

At least the computer cable fittings now are easy to identify. Different shapes and colours.
Time was when they all looked the same and you had to put labels on each cable and its fitting on the computer
so you could get them together after a visit to the computer doctor.

Getting down is not too bad but to get up again is an achievement.
No special problems, old age I think.

She has a pure raw voice. Very similar to Janis Joplin in passion and intensity. Good music to switch things up a bit.

I used to listen to Clutch a lot, haven’t met many people who know that band.
Right now it’s more Band of Heathens, Ryan Bingham, and Whiskey Meyers.

He's damn good. And this kind of country reminds me of Dire Straits, R.E.M. and Nirvana dropped in a same flask.

Being only 8 years elder than my own youngster is, this fella sings mostly for the dad, not for the son. Surprised and pleased, thanks

And I do hope he doesn't drink in his real life as much as he sings about in each of the Purgatory ambum's tracks.
