Anybody get any good deals lately?

Little or nothing to do with distillation.

Problem was the control board and the touch pad.. both are dead and no option for replacment.

The person I got them from has a TON of them. They have some kind of awesome hookup at the port nearby. They have 55 gallon versions as well so I know where I'll be heading when I need more fermenters.

Not sure this really belongs here because it was a deal I passed up because Mrs Cranky talked me out of buying it...by saying "DON'T YOU HAVE ENOUGH CARBOYS!!!

Like there is such a thing  but it is true that I don't really NEED another one but I hate to pass up a nice 6 gallon carboy from Goodwill even if it is slightly overpriced at $20

Cranky that is not over priced especially if you consider the handle that is attached to it.

Here in the beer club you can't give them away.. but Facebook marketplace people will buy them still. Too many bad cuts due to broken carboys.

I switched to sanke kegs with spear removed for my beer stuff years go.. so nice to clean too! PBW !!! They are also great for storage of alcohol

No deals for me..

Ask and you shall receive! I’ve been trying to piece together parts for a CCVM build but the cost of copper is ridiculous. Low and behold the plumbers needed some material ran up and down the vator today and the Foreman was kind enough to toss me this scrap for my troubles. It’s 8’ of 2” type “L” and about 10’ of line set!!! The clouds have opened up and the angels are singing!

I know it's not a bad price but I usually draw the line at $16 but it is 6 gallons which I don't have many of and it's nice that it has a handle which by itself is 7 or 8 dollars by themselves. I should have gone ahead and bought it. I might go back and see if they still have it in a few days but it's unlikely they will...not that I really need another one but it's hard to pass them up

What can I say, I like glass carboys. I like watching the ferment, I like seeing when it's cleared to my satisfaction and I've never had trouble cleaning them but you have to respect glass or it will bite you.

Cranky - Those handles put a bad stress riser on the glass. It's better to get one of those nylon webbing "carboy haulers", or put 'em in milk crate and carry that.

I got a set of Harman Kardon Citation Towers. Like $2,500 speakers. Buddy said "they're not working like they should" and I delved into the issue. I did a factory reset and a step-by-step setup as per instructions and they're now almost centrepieces in my living room, working perfectly.

From your picture earlier regarding the half busted shelf it looks like you’ve got a damn nice collection of carboys. Congrats on the new acquisition! I also prefer glass over buckets.

I have not had a problem using the handles but the milk cartons are easy to get and probably a safer way to transport the carboy.

I have so many carboys I have lost track of just how many I have  but at times it still isn't enough. Mrs Cranky doesn't understand that but she wants me to cut back on my activities. She also wants me to clean the garage which I try to do every year and fail

I know but I would not carry a full one by that handle.

Patience Juana. There is usually someone who has what you need, you just have to find out who it is. Ask at your local pub.

When on holiday in the tropics, I usually manage to make more than one product to bring home and it's never made in a flash kitchen. I often bring very nice coconut oil home and have never had to open a nut with a rock to make it :D

Haha I’m always getting the eye rolls from my Old Lady

That plumber threw me that copper like bacon fat to a dog! And I swear it was almost like I was pissin in his cup by going on about how grateful I was that he was hook in’ it up. I guess 8’ on a 7 story building is nuthin’ and you should’ve seen his scrap pile!
Super Grateful!

I had two 5L glass demijohns (carboys) when I started this hobby. I was planning on buying more when I saw that a client had some marked up for sale. I asked how much they wanted for them and they said that having tried selling them once at a jumble sale, they had given up and I could have them so they could recover the space. Left with 6 of them.

Not that that was enough... still need more, but bigger than 5L here gets expensive really fast!

Mrs Cranky told me she thought the one at goodwill was overpriced because it was only $5 less than a new one :problem: I had to explain to her that the one new one we bought back when I started making wine was $25 but it was 5 gallons not 6 and that was a long time ago. She was shocked when I told her they are selling for $48 now.

If she had told me that in the store I would probably left with it.
