Anybody get any good deals lately?

Little or nothing to do with distillation.

In case any of you guys in the PNW are interested there is going to be an auction of Northwest Brewing Company in Pacific Wa next week on Oct 12th. There are bound to be some good deals there. http://murphyauction.com/Auction/Catalog/5003" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow I myself am trying to talk my wife into letting me get one of the pallets of barrels and maybe a fermenter or two but really I have nowhere to put them so probably won't buy anything. So I am letting everybody else know about it.

As we say sometimes here: "Cranky, you are too kind for this world!"
And than we add: "But that can be helped!"

I picked up this big plastic barrel (55 gal?) from the brew shop for $15. It came w/ a lid and barrel clamp (not shown). They receive liquid grains in these, and sell them to customers when empty. Eventually will be a fermenter for me, or possible a cooling water resivour. So many possibilities. :-).

I had to take a short cross country drive with the frontend loader to get it home.
Originally it might have been the motor and winch mount from the top of an elevator.
Someone turned it into a table by welding legs and a 1/2" plate on top. It also had 4 vices on it.
The 2 that are on it now, are mostly junk
Figure it will make a good addition to the blacksmith part of my shop.

I was at my local Lowe's today and saw this
SALE - C.jpg
If I remember right the 1.25" is $26.
It looks like my Lowe's won't be carrying them anymore :( Not that I need any more copper pipe but I may just have to go back and buy a stick just to have. You other guys might see what your local Lowe's is discounting right now, some of these stores carry 2" as well and that may be getting discounted. I think I may have to go visit the one nearby that caries 2" and see now that I think about it.

Since I'm geographically challenged, as in no LHBS within 75 miles or better, a buddy picked up 55lbs of 2-row barley and 55lbs white wheat malt for for $100. Would've cost twice that to get it after shipping

On the way home last night I see all the crap people are leaving by the road for pick up. Of course I'm nosey and not going too fast and I spot a white bucket and what looks like the bottom of a beer brewing carboy. Rammed it in reverse and picked up the bucket and found a heating strap, hydrometer/burette/racking cane/some nylon tubing and two more buckets! Washed everything up last night and threw out the vinyl tubing as it was too far gone. The plastic beer brewing keg has an airlock built in the lid too!

All for free! :)
Numerous 57L kegs, some propane, one 220v electric with stilldragon controller. Keggle for all-Grain, two pot still tops for whisky, a 3" reflux with deflag for vodka. Coming up, a 4" perf plate column. Life is short, make whisky and drag race!

As a follow up, I was racking four 30l sugar washes tonight to clear them and used my newly acquired buckets. After one of them was filled I noticed the hardwood floor was getting wet!

Two tiny cracks in the base of it. So, transferred it and got out the glue gun. Fixed the cracks and just need to confirm with water. Wonder if this is why all his beer stuff was put by the road? Lol! Probably made a hell of a mess and she said OUT! Lol!

I visited my buddy's winery yesterday and he gave me 20 gallons of his high alcohol port wine so I can make more brandy. My stash is getting low so it'll be great to refill the pipeline. He's a big fan of my product and is excited about seeing what I can do with some of his other wines too. He's talking about having kegs of wine delivered to my house! I may have to go pro to keep up!

I live in a small town but I just found out that there is a shampoo Shipping Company nearby. They have a warehouse full of barrels that they can't get rid of. The barrels are all food grade, I checked on it, and they just needed a good rinsing washing and cleaning.

$5 for two barrels 55 gallon and 30 gallon with removable topsImage

One of losing a piece of soap in a mash and one of a soapy tasting low wine.
Good find!

A go to grain supplier was running a promo....20% off site wide and free shipping on $50 or more order. EXCLUDED from free shipping were 50lb sacks of bulk grains. The solution? Order 48# of crushed grains, eligible for free shipping. The downside to this may be if you read my previous post on another thread, it might be time to try another supplier.

Helped a friend pull his boat a towed it to his storage spot for the winter. He owns an electronic supply business and gave me a GoPro camera along with an antique Whiskey bottle. Embossed in glass on the bottle says: Wright & Taylor Distiller's Louisville, Ky. Below is a picture of the bottle.

As a kid I used to dig in old mining camp and homestead dumps for such finds. Wish I had saved some of those old finds.

Coastal Oregon as a kid I went around and found homesteads, used a metal rod that I stuck down in the earth.
Could feel the difference between glass and rock or anything else, had quite a collection of old bottles.
I buried them when I moved away from home, never to be found (by me) again.
