Thump the hood and blow the horn before starting a car on a cold morning . I don't care that much about most cats , but radiators are expensive to replace .Cost my oldest daughter a grand last week .

When we were young my dad had an62 Chevy pickup. Engine bay was built to handle a straight 6 or v-8 . He had the v-8 but that meant the radiator was far from the motor so it had a long fan shroud. In the winter cats would get up and sleep in the shroud where it was warm. A lot of them met their doom in that truck. One time we left early and he had to get gas at Nellie's Douglas station. He opened the hood and a big ol cat came out at about 100 miles and hour. It went out of sight down the road in about 30 seconds.

When I was a kid my uncle had a 343 javelin that he was meticulous about. Yup, died it up one day and heard the yelp and thumping. He almost cried when he opened the hood. Freaking blood bath.

So I just came in from the garage, wife has a glass of wine.
I asked if she could pour me a glass as I'm pulling off my boots and she said "there's only enough for her".
I said "it's a full bottle"!
She just answered "yes".

Took the wife to the city, sitting in the hotel room waiting for the wife to get ready so we can go to the pool.
I was flipping through the channels and noticed no “dirty” channels so I called the front desk. I asked “ is the porn disabled”? The girl said no, it’s regular porn.

I hung up.

Dont want to get started on any interesting stories from the last few years, but I figured I'd drop by and say Howdy again. Reading about persimmons made me remember about a little bit I put up a few years back, so I brung a quart for yall to sample. It ain't too bad. And if ya mix it with a little water (preferably frozen) it knocks it down to about 100pr. Yep, it's high test and a little warm. Jest be careful, it's for sipping not shooting.

Nope TB, the persimmons were good and ripe. I wait until they hit the ground before picking them. Same as I do for pawpaws.

Hmmm, that’s rather tasty, thanks Sassy!
Just so you guys know, there’s an eBay scam going on right now!
I ordered perfume, a pair of leather gloves and a pair of earrings for the wife.
But what came in was a cam, lifters and a set of valve springs for the mustang!

Bastards!

Can’t even return them either as I accidentally opened all the boxes!

GB, that sounds like a terrible thing...the horror is real. Lol
TB, now you got me thinking, I'm wondering if a sour persimmon can be done with the not yet ripe fruit? Kinda like a sour apple? I made a bit of the dio palinka years ago, that I really liked. And that was unripe walnuts... got a little time to ponder on it.

Check out Jerry Clower talkin about green persimmon wine .
MCH did an outstanding green walnut ferment that he brought to an S3 gathering .
Altogether different thing . Jed presented a clear apple pie at the same gathering . It was killer .

TB, grew up listening to Jerry Clower, but it dont remember him talking about green persimmons...
Every time I've made wine, it's been terrible...until I distill it. Then it turns out purty good. Lol
I only made a few gallons of the dio palinka that one time. Best I remember, I made it, then forgot about it for awhile. Found it, it was really different but good. Gave some of it away for medicinal purposes. Drank the rest. I may find a bit that I hid somewhere else, I been hiding jugs in these hills for the last 20 years, cause i dont want to keep more than a small amount handy. My problem is I forget where I hid it. Tried drawing maps, but lost some maps. So now everytime I find a cache, it's like Christmas around my place.

Winding down the Thanksgiving holiday and reflecting on my blessings .
70 plus years and still on the preferred side of the grass . Got some dings and dents to show the miles . Still got all my digits and appendages , unlike many of my mentors .
Those were WW1, WW2 , Korean war vets that told their stories as a jug was being passed among the adults as we hunkered in silence and listened . I'm humbled by their memories .They were also miners , farmers , and loggers . What the wars didn't get , making a living extracted a toll from .
Gilbert , that I listened to as he told my Grandfather how he withstood a bayonet to his guts to kill the German trying to kill him in The Argonne .
Bud , that had his pack shot off his back while digging for cover on the beach at Normandy in the first wave . Imbedded shrapnel all over his body caused him misery to his dieing day .
'Uncle Albert' that got his right arm shot off by a German machine gun along the Rhine River . A barroom brawler that never lost a fight that I saw . Wheeled a cow wagon better than a man with 3 arms could have . Held the steering wheel with his stub as he reached across with his left to shift 2 sticks .
'Uncle Dick' that held a position on an indiscriminate hill in Korea for 6 hours with an M1 , Browning .30 gun , and several cases of grenades .
'Uncle Don' who got shot in Korea . Played dead while he was bayonetted 9 times and lost a testicle .Crawled back to friendly lines after the assault wave passed . Made it home and fathered 28 children by different women before he passed a few years ago .
My friend and neighbor , Bill . Army Engineer first in on IWO . Ran a dozer and then a crane with a Thompson by his side . He could write his name down a tree with a full auto Thompson .Claimed that Uncle Sam spent a lot of money for him to learn to write cursive .
I don't recall many farmers or loggers other than my Grandfather that had all their digits .
Many miners had crushed fingers fused in a curve to grasp a pick and shovel handle to avoid compensation payments .
Life is good when you are still alive to bitch .

I hear ya TB, you can’t rightly say you appreciate something until you’ve lost it.
36 years I got to do a lot of ramp parties, sending guys home. My bodies all broke up but still on the right side as well.
I get by, by remembering their sacrifices and remembering the crap that went down but by trying to keep a healthy grip on the present.
VAC (Canadian DVA) is paying good money for me to talk to someone every two weeks.

I use humour. Some of it very dark mind you but laugh when you can because it seems nobody gives a shit if they don’t know what’s inside.

Thank God, family and the time I have left.
And most important, thanks to those that went before to give the freedom that so many don’t appreciate today.

Knew lots of tough old bastards and I wonder what will happen when the”soy boys” of today are called on to continue the fight.

Some will make it and many will not . Just like our generation did ; Only there will be less of them that make it . Those that do will be meaner than we are because they will have to be to survive .
All we can do is give them good advice and stay out of their way .

Hard men make good times, good times make weak men, weak men make bad times, bad times make hard men, hard men.....

I think we're currently in the bad times and will stay/get worse until hard men stand up again. I think the current lifestyle and riches the world has today in western countries won't produce any hard men. Some with ethics and morales for sure. But hard ass, got nothing to lose men?
They say a hungry dog hunts best, when the "poorest" of our society has flat screens and I phones, they ain't too hungry.

When they are wearing rags and begging for a job, ANY job, just to feed their families, their kids, growing up hand to mouth with be the hard bad asses.

And those hard asses will appreciate what they have fought for the most. People don't appreciate what's given to them for free.

This is too depressing, going to the garage. I'll be back with something lighter.

Forgot to mention The wife and I (against my wishes) went to the hospital to see her aunt yesterday. I let her go in as I parked the truck. Diddled on the phone for a bit, took my time walking in.
Got to the door and popped two alca seltzer tabs in my mouth. When I came in through the emerg door, mouth foaming, I yelled "the virus has mutated"!!!

Serious lack of humour in 2020, let me tell ya!

We were looking at vacation brochures and saw the warm sandy beaches. The wife showed me one and asked what I thought of the nude beach at this one resort.
I looked for a minute and said, there's a blind guy on that nude beach.
She asked how I could tell?

I said "it's not hard"
