Potentially life-changing bad news....

Post by ShineRunnah » Wed Jan 07, 2015 8:58 pm

I got some really bad news today. My girlfriend has some disc herniations and degeneration in her neck, and as it had been bothering her a lot lately, she went in for an MRI.

Well, her neck turned out to be the least of our worries. They found a small tumor on the occipital lobe of her brain. I'm not fully aware of what this means, but it's not good. We are going to see a neurosurgeon next week and will find out more then.

That said, I won't likely be posting much, as my hobbies will be taking a back seat for the foreseeable future so I can spend as much time as possible with my girlfriend and my step-daughter. I will update everyone who cares to know as soon as I have more info.

Being in our early 30's, and having just gotten engaged on Christmas, this was the last thing we expected, and I certainly hope we get to grow old together as we had planned.

Thanks to all the members here who have taken the time to answer my questions during my time here, I appreciate all of you and have enjoyed my time here as a member. Hopefully life will allow me to return to my hobbies and as an active member of the forum. But I need to put my family as my first priority, at least until this situation is resolved and I know my girlfriend will be with me until we grow old.

Take care everyone, and remember to enjoy those who are close to you, as life is uncertain and tomorrow is not a guarantee. I wish you all well and hope you have a good year.

Always saddened by bad news, keep a positive attitude and know that the members of this forum will keep you and your fiancee in our thoughts and prayers. Having lost family members I know how hard it is at this time, hoping for better news in the near future.

Glad you felt you could confined in us. Like most here, my thoughts will be with you and the other members who have met with misfortunes this season. I have enjoyed your frequent visits with us, and understand your impending absence.

I wish I had something to say that could help. Unfortunately this isn't that type of thread... May god bless you and your family.

Will someone please sticky this?

Thanks everyone. It means more than you could know. We haven't told many people yet, only her mom and my folks and grandmother. It's been a very difficult few days, as we were told of an anomaly in the MRI on monday, but didn't know any other details until today. As my fiancee has worked in the medical field for her whole life, and actually spent the last year working in a cancer treatment center, she felt something wasn't right when they mentioned the "anomaly". She has remained positive through it all so far, and as she knows a bit about medicine, it's been helping me keep my cool.

We are going to wait to tell her daughter (who is 13yrs old) until we see the neurosurgeon and know more of the facts and what needs to happen.
As we just got engaged, my girl has stated she wants to get married while we are both well. She asked that we talk to the travel agent, if the neurosurgeon clears us to travel, and go tie the knot in the Caribbean ASAP. If that's her wish, I'll make it happen.

I will keep you all informed of any new developments, and hopefully good news in the future. I'm not a praying man, but I've been doing my best to figure it out today.

Thanks again, it really does mean a lot and we both thank you.

Life is full of many terrible things that we have to deal with, it is a human thing...

the pain of loss or the thought of it is one of the most unbearable pains one can be burdened with....

what has helped me, and it seems she is in the right mind set, is just taking one step at a time and only expect the best unless it is proven by fact that it is worse. otherwise it can be overwhelming.

make the best quality of time together, each and every day.

each day is a gift and each loved one a treasure. savor the sweetness of your treasures.

Best of luck, prayers are on the way.

Very difficult to hear such news. You're doing the best that you can, spending as much time together as you can and focusing on what's really important.

Thank you everyone. I cant tell you how much it's appreciated.

I've got one last ferment to run this weekend before I hang it up until this is all over. The one good part, my girl asked me to show her how it's done. That's pretty awesome, as she's never had any interest in it, save for final product.

It is strange how fast life can change. Go in thinking the discs in her neck are getting worse, and come out being told she has a brain tumor. Talk about shell-shock...

The only good to it all, is they said it appears they caught it very early, though we still have no idea if its malignant, benign or otherwise. We'll know more next week after the neurosurgeon, at least what further testing needs to take place.

Thanks again everyone, you guys are the best! Happy to be a part of this place!
