In Htown, just got 25% water pressure back today. Finally got all pipes unfrozen last night, power has only gone off a few times today. I’m lucky with no broken pipes. People are filling buckets at our neighborhood pool to flush toilets. Ripped out carpet and Sheetrock at our gym today where a pipe burst and flooded it.
This week has sucked. Snow was cool and all, but sleeping in a dark 38 degree house isn’t worth it. I’m ready for 100 degrees and 95% humidity again.

March came in like a lion!
Had my tea this morning as was debating what to do in the garage today. Heard the howling... holy crap!
Looking out the back window towards the lake, the front door and the hot tub. Won’t be using that today!

Numerous 57L kegs, some propane, one 220v electric with stilldragon controller. Keggle for all-Grain, two pot still tops for whisky, a 3" reflux with deflag for vodka. Coming up, a 4" perf plate column. Life is short, make whisky and drag race!

Wrong picture, here’s the hot tub

-17 and -26 with the windchill.
Think I’ll go downstairs and check the beer I have fermenting.

Could run the small (57L) basement still...

Got computer work to do.....

Anything but going out in that crap.

Aha! Got a bunch of lemons the other day, I’m making lemoncello!

Going to rewatch “still it” on you tube to see how he did it again.

Lemon variety used makes quite a difference I've found.

Day 6 of -15 and snowing weather. Just put my pail of beer outside to crash cool now that it’s done fermenting. Put on a batch because it was to miserable to go outside, still miserable and the beer is done!
Still shaking, warming the lemoncello every day.

Just came in to warm up, I was in the garage changing a a/c compressor that seized up on the kids car.

Oh, just checked, normally +4 on this day here historically. Yes it is 19C below normal! Staying cold/snowing until next Thursday or Friday.

At least one of the Australian beaches is called The Ninety Mile Beach...

Geoff
Ninety mile beach is in New Zealand.

Confusingly it’s only about 55 miles long.

Had a little snow in the foothills in the last week but most of the snow is now in the mountains.

Last week I scraped the ice off the car in the morning and got sunburnt in the afternoon. Tomorrow there's a tentative prediction for snow. "Temperate climate" doesn't necessarily mean "consistent". ;-)

Aha, down here in the Southern Hemisphere where I live we don't see much snow, there was a time back in 1980 when I can remember circa a 4" snow covering, it was a novelty to be sure. We sometime get snow capped peaks in other parts of the country. On the odd occasion when we get down to night time temperatures of 2 to 5oC (36 to 41oF) we think the world has ended.

Ha ha. I had a friend a few years back who was from Russia (St Petersburg). He thought we were pansies in Scotland. Winter for him meant -20C average temperatures!

And then there was the American folk singer Cisco Houston who wrote the "Frozen Logger", and I quote.

"I watched my logger lover going through the snow
A-sauntering gaily homeward at forty eight below
The weather tried to freeze him, it tried it's level best
At a hundred degrees below zero, he buttoned up his vest"
One too many wasted sunsets, one too many for the road.

Yeah well, this blows! Two days in a row now it’s snowed 2-3” each day and it’s -8 to -6. This time of year should be 14 to 18 degrees with the warm sun working on the flowers and plants. It’s as dead quiet outside as the middle of winter, no birds, nothing!

I got outside stuff to do, c’mon global warming!!!

Gonna be day 3 of 80°F here. I'm sure we'll be back to our usual spring showers next weekend.

It's unseasonably warm here in the PNW this week. Not to fear though, the rains are sure to return.
