Hi all,
I have some questions for the electricians/electrically inclined folks..
I've just bought a house and I've been re-wiring some light switches and I've run into a small problem that I cant seem to find the solution for.
So here goes...
I have one set of lights in the kitchen, controlled by 2, 3 way switches, both on dimmers.
I have one set of lights in the dining room, controlled by 2, 3 way switches, neither on dimmers.
My brilliant idea was to swap out one of the dimmer switches from the kitchen with one of the not-dimmer switches from the dining room so that I could dim the lights from one location in both rooms.
After internetting for a few hours, I (mostly) successfully swapped the switches. With the breakers off, and using a volt meter!
Now... both switches work. The dimmer in the new location works. everything is all good right?
Not so much...
The problem that I don't understand is this...
In both sets of lights, both switches will turn off the lights ( and on again), if the lights are on in the first place.
If the lights are off, only ONE of the switches will turn the light back on. And its the switch that was used to turn the light OFF last.
How do I fix this?
In my simple mind.. doing a direct swap of 2 switches in a functioning system, and wiring them properly (ie: the same as they were wired before) should have yielded the same results.
Any advice or solutions greatly appreciated.

Non-Stilling related question for the electricians
Too much of anything is bad, but too much good whiskey is barely enough
