Little or nothing to do with distillation.

Yeah. My welder is an older gentleman. I tried to overwhelm him with "you know how diesel guys take veg oil....., this is similar but for essential oils and the such". His reply was "well, it looks like a still to me- I'm a tin knocker, I've made a bunch of stainless boilers over the years"

As much sugar as I buy, I'm not supplying sugar cookies around town... the old man knew! Lol by the time I drive 45 minutes at 65 mph to get my sugar for 2 bucks less I've spent more on the fuel to go than to buy here. But if I'm in the city I won't hesitate to hit up sams. My parties are well known with BBQ and spirits!

You think you get funny looks for buying sugar? Try buying two sacks of corn, asking for the stuff without soybean oil, and possibly a bucket of feed molasses...while wearing slacks and a tie and loading it into a little Toyota commuter car.

I've bought it from Walmart by the pallet. I tell them it's for honey bees, which it is, I just have some left over for me.

Pretty sure welders have seen a fair amount of them. When i went to the shop here, he said "oh, got a big ol' "coffee pot" you want done up, we done a few of them" referring to my keg. Didn't end up going there, too long of a wait . . . but the welder that did do it I knew personally, and he had also done a few. As well as another welder friend who couldn't due to working out of town, but said "yup, i've done my share . . . make sure it gets filled with argon inside too so you don't get sugaring". I haven't even started my GTAW yet (just passed my all position stick CWB), but i've already been asked to weld a few "questionable" items when I have my TIG setup.

I get the same thing from the home brew store. Been shopping there for years for beer stuff, but when you buy grain and no hops, they know what you're up to.

I ordered full sacks of flaked corn, 6-row, and beechwood smoked malt from my regular group grain buy. They were a little confused cause that's the first time anyone has ordered a full sack of any of those for themselves. "You must really like Rauchbier... and light american lagers??" "Um.. Yeah... I'm doing some experimental batches" :)

So you're saying if I'm walking out of Costco with 80lbs of sugar, a jumbo can of tomato paste, ten gallons of cider, a case of corn flakes and a chicken pot pie. They are going to question what I am doing with the pot pie?

Throw a pack of condoms on top and nobody will ask a question . The condoms work for air locks if you have no other use for them .

Had that happen to me at HD. Told the old fella I was building the wife a water feature for the garden and reckoned it would green up real nice. Not sure if he bought it but came out quick enough he may have.

One of the most memorable and fun days in recent years was getting my still parts at Home Depot. The guy taking care of the plumbing department looked in my shopping cart and asked in a broad Newfie accent, "You building a still?" to which I replied, "No, I'm building two stills." He regaled me with stories of his father and uncles making screech. I got all the parts and a lot of good advice thrown in.

Pot pie is very suspicious and am amazed Costco has them down there. You must be in Oregon. In BC we gotta make'em ourselves.

New to the site, but will add my $.02. I am also an amateur bee keeper. During the winter we go through a lot of sugar to feed our bees. Buy all the sugar you want in Jan/Feb. A guy in our bee club gets sugar that is "not fit for human consumption" from a distributor (by the 55 gal drum!) and sells it cheap to his bee keeper friends. Might want to join your local bee club.

My homebrew store (just literally around the corner) is totally in the know.
They ask me for my advice on using molasses and how to keep the PH in the good range.
I'm so happy that to the right I have a homebrew store and to the left I have a 115 year old hardware store where I've been shopping for nearly 30 years.

Oops, just trying to make a joke and thought it was funny. Didn't mean to get "hall monitor" rad all hot and bothered about a natural plant which is proven to improve the quality of life in many people (including children) suffering from many illnesses such as epilepsy, nausea, glaucoma, cancer and constant pain not to mention many other symptoms. Luckily the religious good-doers of the world didn't convince politicians to outlaw the chemicals we ingest daily such as tobacco, caffeine, tylenol and aspirin, not to mention the evils of red meat and bacon.

By the way, I'm not a user of pot in any form or fashion at all. I don't even smoke, but I do think it should be decriminalized based solely on proven medical facts and if you don't like that...go f$#k your hat.

*Edit - Add - it's only illegal in some places such as alcohol, porn, and women's rights so is open to interpretation. By the way, did I mention it was just a joke? I may have gone off on a rant and for that I'm sorry.

No not really but when someone rolls up and says bugger ya rules I'll post what I damn well please, they either going to change the attitude soon or they are going to be out the door. No point beating around the bush because it really is that simple

Discussion about stilling doesn't violate rule #6. Have you read the rules?
