Shrimping and fishing
The month of May is my big fishing and shrimping season as the lingcod and halibut season is very short. Will spend the next 4 days at a cabin in the San Juan Islands of Washington State. Will try to check my cell phone when I get a chance but reception that close to Canada is very sketchy.
Re: Shrimping and fishing
Have a great time bushman. I look forward to some salty tales when you get back.
Be safe on the water and have fun.

Well I finally have wifi but not because I want it. Had 3 great days of shrimping and my fuel pump went out so motored over to Roche Harbor on my kicker, they will fly a new one in on Monday. Can think of worse places to be stuck.

Internet, but a big regatta here at Roche Harbor so best time to be on Internet is the morning or it is really spotty.
Re: Shrimping and fishing
Boats fixed but we have gale winds of 50 knots, looks like another night docked at the resort drinking rum.

I mentioned the gale winds that got up to 60 mph so stayed at the dock. Next morning heading home this sail boat had broke anchor in the harbor and was on the beach. We made it home in the morning but had some rough spots, did my best to stay on the Lee side of the islands.

Thanks for the invite . Poor judgement to call for what you don't want to come .
'Bout as clean as I can calculate it over the last few years SOH has been to the western lands twice , the PNW , the Bahamas , and is planning an Alaska trip next year .
She flies and I won't . Just stay home and piss the dogs .
I'm about due for 6-7 weeks of rubber on the road 'Road Trip' in my little Honda to visit some of my stillin buddies . I'd like to have her along but someone's got to piss the dogs ................

Maybe I've watched too many of those reality shows.

Successful fishing trip we caught a couple of these and lost one halibut.

Re: Shrimping and fishing
That is nice sized fish, Bushman. It's not anything we're familiar with down under and much bigger than anything we caught yesterday. We got enough for a good feed and some for the smoker.
Re: Shrimping and fishing
Looks tasty. Glad it all worked itself out in the end for ya bushman.

My nephew and his wife each caught 21+lbs salmon the last two days up by Pender Harbour. They sure are running!

I saw salmon this last weekend while running out to the island this last weekend. Had problems with my boat so really didn't do much more than work at the cabin the last 4 days. Salmon has not yet opened in the US.Grappa-Gringo wrote:My nephew and his wife each caught 21+lbs salmon the last two days up by Pender Harbour. They sure are running!
Nerdy never fished that area, are you going to a fish camp?

Yes, I'm spending a week building some new bathrooms for camp.Bushman wrote:I saw salmon this last weekend while running out to the island this last weekend. That and hopefully fishing.
This is work I will hopefully finish before the 1st camp of the year opens.
Not by myself, there will (hopefully) be a team of workers on the project.
At the very least it will be my dad and myself building and that makes a good team right there.
If there are any salmon in the area we'll get 'em - the area has a pretty good coho run that usually starts around the end of June so we may miss it.
Should be good for Halibut though.

Nice, it's generally $25/lb around here.Bushman wrote:Saw halibut at $20 a pound in the store the other day!
Makes it real nice when you pull up a hundred pounder from the depths!
I know that's only about 60Lbs of meat but that's real nice to take home.

Currently at our fractional ownership condo. Picked these oysters off the beach in less than 10 minutes, getting my dry rub set up for a cold smoke today!
Since retiring it has become a full time job feeding the family
Re: Shrimping and fishing
Went out crabbing today and got half a limit. The commercial guys were out just before us must have seen several thousand pots out. I guess a day on the water beats doing choirs at home.
