Absolutely, I'm going out with the family next week hopefully get some big trout and maybe some perch.
No matter what, we will be on the water with fishing lines out.

Bushman, are you going out after any of the escaped Atlantic Salmon? (BTW the company is blaming the escape on the eclipse)
I'm interested in filling up my smoker with something, I've smoked Chum & Pinks so Atlantic farmed Salmon would likely be fine smoked up.
No size or catch limit, WDFW is encouraging anglers to get out and clean this mess up.
If you're going out could I be your deck hand?

Ron Warren, fish program assistant director for the WDFW:
“Catch as many as you want,” Warren said. “We don’t want anything competing with our natural populations. We have never seen a successful crossbreeding with Atlantic salmon, but we don’t want to test the theory.”

Hi Nerdy. Funny, that they are blaming the eclipse tide. There have been bigger tides recently than the one produced by the eclipse. Where has corporate responsibility gone?

And if you like smoked chum, Atlantic salmon should be a treat. ;-).

Hope you are well. Otis

Chum in the brine for 24 hours then in the smoker for 4 to 6 hours comes out like Salmon candy.
Pinks are too small for that amount of time but definitely taste better!

Bushman wrote:Nerdy what brine recipe are you using.
My own.

Apple juice, usually a couple gallons
Garlic from my garden when possible, minced (about a cup of minced garlic)
Brown sugar (Panela when I have enough) 5Lbs should do it
Canning or kosher salt, a couple cups of salt
Put it all in a pot & heat until everything is dissolved then let it cool.

When I'm filling the fridge smoker I use a medium size plastic tote to brine the fish and probably about 20 Lbs Salmon fillets.
Cut the salmon into pieces about 4" x 6" (or smaller) when possible.
Make up enough brine to cover all the fish & weigh down the fish so it's all covered.
Place in a cool dark area (fridge if possible) for 12 to 24 hours.

It doesn't matter how much I put out it all disappears every time.
Also I have a killer smoked salmon dip recipe I got from my dad and then modified.

Very jealous of you guys able to salmon fish. Around here we can fly fish only fir salmon. Get 6 tags a year. I can use 2 locally, have to travel 3+hrs to use the others (based on river size). That may all be gone out the window, last season numbers were down so they closed all retention of salmon, may never open again.

I fly to Alaska to get my Salmon & Halibut.
Keep 6 per day per species of Salmon and 2 per day of Halibut.
Keeps the freezer full.

I usually fish in my local waters off the San Juan Islands but my trophy fish I get in Canada a short run in my boat for most of the fish but the big salmon I go to a place called Rivers Inlet. Canadian season is much longer than ours. I get my oysters, clams, and crab at our place on Hood Canal and my prawns also I get in the San Juan Islands.

I am sure we have crossed paths out on the brine Bushman. I guided the area for several years and still fish often. Was out yesterday on the hook for the morning in a normally productive spot but drew a blank. Tight lines.

I also spearfish while scuba diving but I don't hold a candle to this fisherman on horseback. He is using a fishing spear and note the fish caught on his horse. This old picture was taken in the town where I was born.

Home after 4 days on the water. Had someone steal 2 of my shrimp pots ($400 dollars invested). Other than that got a lot done and a successful trip. Helped a friend out at the island put a new steering column in his boat.
