Favorite Winter Olympics Sport

Post by TDick »

About 30 years ago I played table shuffleboard every Wednesday night which included lots of gambling and alcohol.
Shuffleboard.jpg
"Open" tournaments were on Friday nights which included Mixed Doubles events and often successful hookups after the gambling and drinking had ended.

Reason I say this is I'm watching some Olympic Mixed Doubles Curling, Canada v Norway.
In fact the announcers just mentioned that mixed doubles has not taken off in Canada, the leading nation in Curling.
They apparently haven't added that sexual component.

The point of this thread is: What is your favorite Winter Olympic Event?

winterolympics were something i loved growing up, Hockey, slalom and skiing were where us swedes had a hope of getting some medals, with the occasional skating and ski jumping medal thrown in for fun.
I still gravitate towards the hockey but also am drawn towards the Curling, may be the that i feel I'm fit enough to do curling

I do also like the "skeleton"

Not sure why I took an interest in curling few Olympics back, but the determination by the Norwegian cross country skier after falling and ending up in the back with a broken pole to make the comeback he did and to run away from the pack to win the gold was amazing.

i don't think they all from Canada. At a recreational level curling is a drinking game. Mixing in the lounge, mixing on the ice. A pro here is someone who can sweep with a rum and coke in their hands and not spill any.
I finally quit drinking for good.

now i drink for evil.

absolutely love the curling!
hockey is the only other sport i'll watch there. i'm big on snowboarding myself but there's only so long you can watch people repeating the same spins before you are either bored or wanting to go get your own board out..

and less said about the figureskating the better.. it's theatre. not sport..

It seems like a lot of the Olympic sports exist only so they can be Olympic sports. Circular.

I mean, I was down and my local bobsled club when.... Never happened anywhere.

You have to be NUTS to do the skeleton!

I do like all the "downhill" stuff like luge & skeleton, but especially Downhill and Giant Slalom.

Back when my bones weren't so brittle, I would occasionally go skiing in the Carolinas, not much compared to out West and Canada, but it was about my speed.
What I like about it is you have to see how close to disaster you can get and still have a little control.

So, "sweeping" is an olympic sport???...in today's techno times...it should be "vacuuming".

Favorite sport.....horseshoes. Wait....that's a summer games sport...(my bad). Only now, it'd be called, "cornhole". :esurprised:
