Mardi Gras party

Post by Shine0n »

March 10th my sister and I will be celebrating our heritage by doing our annual Mardi Gras party

The menu
Big crawfish boil with corn, onion, red potatoes, garlic and lemon and don't forget the smoked sausage... yum
shrimp sauce picante
red beans and rice
alligator stew
Cajon smothered chicken
Jambalaya
chicken and sausage gumbo
king cake
Smoked and grilled boudin

Anyone who's around Va or nearby and willing to make the travels, send me a pm and we'll get things straight.

Wish we were near. The missus and I love alligator (we don't get to the Florida house enough) and have to order it on the internet. Not the same as killing it yourself. Wish you all the best, sounds like a good party.

LORD that sounds good!
I don't think my horse will make it that far for the Courir!
(First time I heard of it in Lafayette, it sounded like a BLAST!)

cede, thanks for the link.
I've heard of the tradition but not the location, we may go down there one time for that and that song was completely off the chain good.
There are a few Mardi Gras down in LA not just on Bourbon St.
If anyone gets a chance to go to one... do it!
I remember in the 70's at the tender age of 5 I got to see my first set of BOOBIES and been fucked ever since. lol

Damn! i thought for sure after reading the menu you were close by in Louisiana. Looks like Mardi Gras has left the Gulf coast and moved East!!! lol! Sounds good, but just too far away

No doubt Jim, I'll keep them drunk. lol

If I knew you would have an interest I'd fly you out myself just for the experience.

Yes, all I mentioned is food straight from Louisiana where I was born and learned the love of Cajon food.

Now I'm in Va. (a long time now) I just never let my heritage go and love to cook some fine southern food.

The invitation is still open!!!

Oh yeah Jim, the corn and barley yielded me 2.75 gal of keepers. That shit is good too. lol

Have y'all started cooking yet?
I can almost smell the Trinity & The Roux.
Plus a friend of mine in Lafayette mentioned the Boudin Festival coming up in Scott.
I might have to get out my cast iron pot and make a little Jamabalaya just to be there in spirit!

Nah, no cooking yet although it will be an all day affair sat.
Every thing will be started at 6 am and the crawfish boil will be the only thing cooked as we go into the party.

Any Cajon knows to slow cook/ simmer the better part of the day. lol

Ya gotta let the flavors of each ingredient to mingle with the other and it takes time.

Most don't know that Cajon/ Acadian food is made with ingredients that mesh well and make a unique flavor vrs Creole that uses spices to enhance the final food flavors. Both are great foods but I'm a ragin Cajon so I'll go with what I know.

Those creole girls though

Been cooking since 5:30 am and still got a ton of shit to do. Headed to the airport to pick up the crawfish and boudin, fresh out the swamp this morning and should be here in 30 minutes or so.
Sooo looking forward to the party and seeing folks enjoy themselves.
I've also got some good corn and barley shine
blueberry melomel
Raspberry melomel
traditional mead
and of course my last quart of HBB
This is going to be some fun

I'll post up some pics of the food when prepared.

Party was a great success, everyone had an awesome time and I still have my sanity.

45 people with no issues, drunk and full and happy at the end of the day.
The other photos have faces so couldn't post. Next year the invitation is open, I'll host at my home so there will be a big ass bon fire and more.

Wish yall could've come!
