Little or nothing to do with distillation.

plumbing

Post by bilgriss »

I was just thinking, why is it so much less fun soldering copper when your hot water heater bites the dust?
Or when it freezes hard and pipes burst?

I've done both this year.

Its basically a simple potstill on top of a boiler..
Man could have one thats actually a workin still ifn done just rite.
No one know the difference..Ifn it wasn't around a second one, prolly never get noticed.
A whole nother concept..Be a market for inconspicuous, masked stills.
Have an old refrigerator next to it with coil chiller in freezer down to reservoir in frig for cooling source.

At the moment, I'm just glad there are no leaks anywhere, the water's hot, and my skills were adequate. But I like the way you guys think!

Change out yer whole house to PEX pipe, freezing will never burst them and you can use all the copper for new projects 8)

Well Rev, I did that for all the new plumbing where the pipes burst, but didn't want to bore anyone with the story. So here goes. I've got an old house. I've got copper, steel, PEX, and a combination of plastic and cast for drain. The stuff that burst was an addition from a prior homeowner in an unheated crawl-space using flexible copper. I have since insulated that region, and it's PEX all the way back to the area where the main basement hovers between 50-60 all winter. I feel pretty safe now.

Most of the copper dates to a kitchen addition in the 90's, and it runs back as far as the hot water heater.
