Visit to Glen Ord Distillery (near Inverness)

Post by Stew8 »

Here are a few photos from my visit to the Glen Ord distillery today. I missed the tour....but managed a stroll around their exhibition. It’s one of the few distilleries that malt on site. Paste IV6 7UJ into google and it should bring up the map, just North of Inverness, in the highlands.

I’d not seen a rummager before, looked like copper chain mail, used to prevent scotching and burning by dragging it around the bottom of the “kettle” google shows some interesting photos.

The display showing colour change over time was also interesting.

The peat they burn looks like piles of doggy do and did not smell of anything. Perhaps the exhibit peat was old...I did not get a photo unfortunately.

I’ve a teaspoon of their 12 year old in a plastic pot to sample when I get home.

Very cool, would love to make a trip like that , and it looks like SPRING! (We are still getting snow flurries) Good pics and thanks for sharing! Have a look at "der wo's" posts...he made his own rummager for his single malt still...it's very cool.

Way cool, Stew8. Thanks for sharing.

Just last week the wife mentioned one of her close friends moved to Inverness, which means we have to start planning a trip.

That miniature pot is absolutely gorgeous. It appears to be a bit larger, but if it was, say, 20-30 gallons, do you think it's performance (riser dimensions) would translate well down to the hobby scale?
