disappointing news.
last night I was checking the status of my order I placed June 19th for my still, and noticed that the estimated shipping had slid another month from this week to the last week in August.
At this point, I'll likely cancel the order and place an order from another on line retailer tomorrow once I reach out to the retailer currently holding my order.
I've already got 15 gallons of wash in corny kegs ready to run.
I guess this is my comeuppance for trying to skirt paying sales tax by ordering from a retailer in a different state.

Huh, many years ago I bought a few things from them, they were really on top of things. But last few years it's like they just dropped off the planet.
People say that I'm a bad influence. I say the world's already f#cked -- I'm just adding to it.

Get a milk can and stainless ferrules from amazon, copper pipe and soldering supplies from your local plumbing supplier and make your own.

This is an option I am exploring as well at this point. I ordered the still before finding this site. Maybe this is a sign that I'm supposed to make my own still head...tombombadil wrote: ↑Sun Jul 26, 2020 10:40 am Get a milk can and stainless ferrules from amazon, copper pipe and soldering supplies from your local plumbing supplier and make your own.

Re: disappointing news.
I need more practice on soldering first. I overhauled my old home made wort chiller the other day and it isn't the prettiest work, but it doesn't leak. Before the overhaul it was just old 1/2 inch garden hose off the ends of the coil with no risers. I had to gut about a foot of the coil off to remove a kink in the tubing, but with the additional length from the risers its actually got more surface area.

Another Newbie here, just go for the keg - you have read enough and been around long enough, get the keg and appropriate column for your wants and run with it.

Re: disappointing news.
I looked into this option as well, buy the time I buy a $50 keg, all the ferrules (6" clean/fill port, 2" heater port for upgrading to power later, and a 1.5 inch drain) and pay a weld shop to put them in where I want them, The cost is comperable to a milk can boiler, and Im not stuck waiting for a weld shop to get around to my piddly little job.Dewstiller wrote: ↑Sun Jul 26, 2020 12:51 pm Another Newbie here, just go for the keg - you have read enough and been around long enough, get the keg and appropriate column for your wants and run with it.
That being said, I am looking at column parts and peices to solder up a pot still head, to clamp onto a copper spool so I can add an additional length of spool and an LM head at a later date.

yah, you and me too! been a hassle in 2020, a year to never forget.
Re: disappointing news.
If you know how to solder you don't need the weld shop. Even if you don't know how to solder. Learning don't take long or much money plus knowledge is there for life.Deplorable wrote: ↑Sun Jul 26, 2020 1:40 pmI looked into this option as well, buy the time I buy a $50 keg, all the ferrules (6" clean/fill port, 2" heater port for upgrading to power later, and a 1.5 inch drain) and pay a weld shop to put them in where I want them, The cost is comperable to a milk can boiler, and Im not stuck waiting for a weld shop to get around to my piddly little job.Dewstiller wrote: ↑Sun Jul 26, 2020 12:51 pm Another Newbie here, just go for the keg - you have read enough and been around long enough, get the keg and appropriate column for your wants and run with it.

Re: disappointing news.
At this point Ive reached out to Moonshine Distillers.com via phone, email, and text message per their annswering machine instructions (They seem to never answer the phone) to confirm that my order is in fact delayed yet another month. I'll cancel the order if it is, and order from Olympic Distillers.
If I dont hear from them by the end of the day, I'll email again and cancel the order and notify the bank to cancel the charge on my card.
The lack of customer service so far for has been enough to turn me off. I"ve called them three times in the 8 weeks since I made the initial inquiry about ordering, and never once had someone actually answer the phone. Emails take no less than two days for a response, text messages took 4, and phone calls are not returned until the next day.

Off topic but I just had a call that said my $300 e-bay order was ready to post and could I please press button 1 to discuss.
Didn't!
Definitely a scam, I have actually never ordered anything from e-bay.

Re: disappointing news.
After several phone calls and emails yesterday, I was able to get a hold of MD. The updates on the website applied to new orders and mine left the loading dock yesterday. According to the shipping company it's expected to arrive Friday. So it looks like after 5 weeks of studying and taking notes, Saturday I'll get to put everything I've learned here to use. Cleaning, and assembling, cleaning runs on Saturday, and stripping 10 gallons of KSSF on Sunday so I can get another wash started with the back set.

Notice cleaning runS. That S is plural. I couldn't agree more. I had a discussion this morning with Sven at Olympic Distillers. He's really excited about the growth in the hobby in the last 10 years. He made me wish Id have gotten into this a few years back.

Re: disappointing news.
Not much to show. All I got today was box one of two. A 3 inch still head, 2x24 inch column, assorted tri clamps and gaskets, copper mesh the milk can drain valve, thermometer and alchometer. Box two should be here tomorrow.
Im waiting for a call from MD to get the still head issue straightened out.
While Id like to just have them send me a 3 inch column and lid and get moving, Ive already got a full set of 2 inch teflon gaskets, and a 2 inch sight glass coming from another supplier.

Re: disappointing news.
I bet there is another customer out there somewhere who is opening their boxes and got a 2 inch still head, with their 3 inch column and saying the same thing I said. "Well, shit "
I'll make the best of the wait time and move this 2nd 5 gallons of KSSF wash into another corney, and start another 5 gallons. I'll have plenty of wash to run after the vinegar/water and the saccrificial sugar wash.
