What does Washington State and Michigan have in common?

Little or nothing to do with distillation.

What does Washington State and Michigan have in common?

I am going to do some history research but until northshore joined the forum I was not aware of this (little known fact to me). The question is about Geography. If you can’t guess what I am talking about I will throw out more hints after researching a bit.

UP is like Pt. Roberts in Washington. Pt. Roberts is part of the 49th parallel but is attached to Canada. With our no entry into Canada the only way of getting there is by boat. Had to read why UP is part of Michigan and not Wisconsin. It is really interesting in the state of Washington as if we would have followed the 49th parallel a lot of the Canadian Gulf Islands and part of Vancouver Island would be part of the United States thus I would have more boating opportunities today.
