First bottling

Post by Fraser »

Just bottled my first small run of gin yesterday. It's only 50 bottles, but I'm please with the result.

It started out as about 150 gallons of wine (Niagara varietal)(568L). I stripped it all down to low wines which left me with about 30 gallons (114L) at 60% approx.. Reran that for neutral, and after making my cuts, which I tried to make as tight as reasonable, I ended up with about 5 gallons of 93%. Diluted down and back into the boiler and reran for gin, and then after letting it rest in the tank for a week I proofed it down to 43%.

They're from Waterloo containers. They're Nordic style bottles, which I think are available from most wholesalers. It's a nice off the shelf bottle for those of us just getting started that can't afford a custom molded bottle just yet.

That is beautiful. Even your post smells like a pine tree.
Best of luck.

You're absolutely right about the closures. They're Tapi black wood, synthetic. Good eye there. I still need to put the capsules on them which will be a matte black with horizontal gold stripes.

Here's an image of our front label. It's at the printers right now. It's going to be embossed with raised texture on the border and all the letters. The gold square in the middle will be stamped foil. They have to cut a few different plates at the printers since they'll have to run it through a few times to get the design right.

It's one of the best smells in the world. The whole shop fills up with that aroma when it's running, which is just heaven.

Where might a person acquire one of those bottles of pine tree essence?

I'll be selling them in our tasting room only at Wycombe Vineyards in Bucks County PA. I likely won't have enough inventory for awhile to sell anywhere else.
