Beer Keg Fermenter lid? Any Ideas?

Post by cellsitegod »

I'm thinking about converting a SS 15.5 gallon beer keg into a fermenter. Anybody got any pics or drawings on how they made a lid that was sealable?
Thanks

Don't seal your fermenter.
Purposeful motion, for one so insane...

if you seal your fermenter be sure to have some sort of airlock on it to allow the CO2 to escape or esle KABOOOOOOMMM!

and make sure the airlock will have the necessary flow to permit the amount of the gas to escape as well, one of those small ones may not be enough

Hi Cellsitegod,
I scrounged a great s/s saucepan lid to use as my column base to my keg. I drew a circle around the lid style, cut out the keg and the lid fits in snugly. Place a cork gasket around the cutout and a couple of tension bars over the lid and under the keg rims and a perfect seal. The same could be done for fermenting as long as in place of the column you have an airlock to let gas escape. We don't want BOOM.
Cheers,

I use mine as is. Filled the grooves inside the neck with silicone caulk, bought a stopper at the homebrew store with a hole in it to put an air lock in - works great.
