I use a silicone hose connected to the barb with the other end in a small bucket of water and StarSan

Wow, not answering your question but the brew shop where you bought it should be able to help. Got to say that is one nice fermenter.

I would probably lose the Starsan, just change the water from time to time.Windy City wrote:I use a silicone hose connected to the barb with the other end in a small bucket of water and StarSan
I think it would be possible for the hose to suck back if say the ferment got cold, especially if actual fermentation was finished.
Starsan in your liquor; yuk.

That fermenter looks to be about 24”to 30” tall
There is no way you are going to pull that great of a vacuum
I have been doing it this way for years albeit with much larger fermenters and have never seen more than a couple of inches pulled up the hose.
What I do see is it common to blow out some foam on strong ferments without a foam reducing additive.
When that happens I prefer some starsan in the bucket to keep everything clean and not have something growing wildly in my brewery.
To each his own, that’s just the way I do it
