Taken from my o-scope with a potentiometer controlled SSR (SSVR), 120VAC into a resistive load (60 watt incandescent lightbulb):

That is a much neater line than I anticipated.

I'm not so good with scopes so I couldn't set one wire as flat ground. But in essence my regulator is the same. On at set phase angle, off at zero.

Any update on these plans? Given there has been discussion about how it is wired I'm curious if the original plans (well done!) are still accurate/safe.
I built a PID controller per "bad advice" and have learned my lesson. It just doesn't do the job. So, I would like to build and SCR controller like this one and searching for the latest design.

Those parts work well. You'll get a working controller with them. I use a different one now, but I built this one, and it still works great.

It's possible to go fancier or to get a kit for less than $60 from one distilling company online that uses a variable Solid State Relay and a potentiometer instead of doing it this way, but either way works fine.

Out of curiosity do you plan to document what you use now?

I am in the process of building this one but the idea that you've got something better has got me curious.
