choose a heat sink and fan for SSR
i am starting to buy stuff for a control pannel. i will have a SSR 40A regulating a 4Kw element. below are 2 CPU cooling units. wich one should i install? i will have an extraction fan on the pannel but the pannel will be wood.
sory on the extra photos but i do not see them in the edit mode...

I'd use the one with the larger flat surface.

Re: choose a heat sink and fan for SSR
my thought as well, but the other fan draws better and have much more rpm. should i try to convert the fans, or will the propriety fan on the larger flat surface be enough.... over thinking here. guess whats good for a CPU will be good for a SSR.

Re: choose a heat sink and fan for SSR
The SSR doesn't produce a rude amount of heat. Almost ANY forced air will keep it comfortably cool and give it a good long life.
Even open air convection with a good heatsink will do. I run my fans at half voltage to make them silent and have no issues.

thanks, that makes me comfortable. will use the flat heatsink with fan as is.

Re: choose a heat sink and fan for SSR
The rectangular one will work better (in this case) because the surface of the SSR will be completely covered while the round model I believe will not cover the surface of the SSR. If you can, add some thermal paste but it will work even without. Actually in my SSR for HOMEBREWING (I write big otherwise there are some misunderstandings) connected to the PID I used a very simple C heatsink so only 2 fins always with fan and it works perfectly (I run max 3000w). In my opinion the fan is more important than the size of the heatsink.

Agreed, so whichever fits your build best.
