1/2" Drill to stir the Mash...

Post by Fly727s »

I'd like to build a bracket to hold my drill, so I can continuously stir the mash, and have my hands free...
Has anyone done this, using a paint stirrer?
Pictures would be nice, I'm looking for ideas.
I have an 8 gallon pot, and a Keggle...

I used large hose clamps to secure my 1/2” drill & paint mixer to a piece of 2x4. Then I clamped another piece of 2x4 to the bottom cord of an exposed roof truss right over my pot. Last, I clamp the two pieces of 2x4 together so the end of the mixer is just above the bottom of my pot.
🎱 The struggle is real and this rabbit hole just got interesting.
Per a conversation I had with Mr. Jay Gibbs regarding white oak barrel staves: “…you gotta get it burning good.”

Thought about building something but would like it to serve a dual purpose by using it also on my grain mill. Still working out the dual design.

I made my mixer for beer with a wiper engine that is in practice a gearmotor ... 12v (therefore safer in the presence of water), very quiet, constant driving torque even when adjusting the laps ...
I took a picture, the lid is not the maximum of aesthetics but the engine works well.

This is what I've come up with...a Bain-Marie style corn cooker.

Drill motor, drill press, same same. Darn impressive use of the thing if you ask me.
I just use a heavy duty 1/2 drill motor on a speed reducer with a mud mixer. I don’t worry about dough balls cuz the things rips through them easily enough. Which means that I just dump stuff into the drum and let the mixer do the work. I don’t need to leave it mounted or open to the environment between additions.
