I'm in the process of upgrading all of my equipment. I'm currently converting my keg to electric. I'll be running a camco 5500W element. I'm still waiting on parts for my controller, but it will be identical to what's in Jimbo's electric thread. This new keg will be driving a 60" boka and a 2" potstill head with 2"X24" shotgun condenser (5- 1/2" tubes).
Here's some pics from today's work on the keg conversion.
A BIG thank you to bellybuster for the tutorial and video on soldering a coupler to a keg. I followed everything to a T and it was just as easy as the video made it. The only difference I had was the flux. I couldn't find Harris Stay Clean locally, but my local Airgas store had Radnor Stay Clean. It's the same stuff under a different name. It's all made by the same people. http://www.airgas.com/product/Welding-P ... AD64001776
And here's the element, box and plug installed.
More to come when I get the rest of the controller parts!

Awesome job on that fitting! I don't have the nerve to try it so a buddy of mine is gonna weld it for me.

Congrats dude -- ya did a nice job. Let us know a little more about how you fashioned up the blue box around your element end.

The hardest part was opening the hole up. My step drill only went up to 1 3/8" so I had to dremel out the last little bit. Tapped the coupling in with a mallet and it basically held itself. It really is that easy.bellybuster wrote:you're welcome.. nice job, it really is easy isn't it?
The blue box is just a round ceiling box from Home Depot. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Carlon-4-in- ... ncZ1z115ypWalkingWolf wrote:Congrats dude -- ya did a nice job. Let us know a little more about how you fashioned up the blue bad around your element end.
I took the step drill and cut a 1 3/8" hole in the center. I put the element through the box and screwed the whole thing into the coupling. The plug wires are run through the openings in the bottom of the box.
