Boiler sound

In our view 30 gallons and under is considered hobby size. Do not bring anything larger than this to our site.

Boiler sound

Post by Deerhunter »

5500 watt element heating up. Sounds like a train whistle without the column on the boiler.

It's your electric element creating a steam boundary around its self.

Cold water, full power element, steam release echoing in boiler...there's a technical name for it but it escapes me at the moment!

If you "ramp" up the power slowly, the common name is Bake Off, as the water heats you can avoid this and prolong the life of your element.

This is the major reason hot water elements fail. The are either on or off.

You must be right....This only happens in the beginning. As things heat up it gets nice and quiet. Guess I should use less power on startup

The effect is Cavitation; essentially there is a small but powerful shockwave produced when bubbles of steam collapse, the vibrations generated are the noise you hear.
