Amazing deal on pre-fitted sanitary keg
Hey all - second post ever, but I'm excited about my first ever keg and all the bells and whistles it comes with. It's on sale right now from the link below and would save anyone a lot of work if they're able to ship it for cheap. The fact that it has a 6" tri-clamp and two 1.5" tri-clamps on the top already is amazing, along with the 1.5" near the bottom for a drain. It seems like a steal and I was able to get one with very reasonable shipping. Obviously, a few things to replace (seals, the plastic sight glasses), but otherwise I'm pumped. Thoughts?

I guess I can understand RC, although they seem to just sell lab equipment. Surprised that they had a "420" sale, but I'm sure they know consumers are using their equipment for things other than lab work. I just think I'd be very hard pressed to get a clean 50l keg with all the ports and fittings for anywhere near that price.

One still might be inclined to add a couple of 2" ferrules for future elements, but the 6" top is the bees knees. Get a 4" ss ferrule fixed to a 6" cap and you can run 3" or 4" columns. You can use your boiler as a mash tun/fermenter on the front side. Quite the versatile vessel.

Browsing a little deeper: pretty sure they're marketing to the '420 botanical extraction' crowd. Also pretty sure there's a fair amount of crossover between that crowd and ours. Hence the kegs. Good find.

They have some nice toys, I'd buy that.

$60 shipping steered me away. Was a want more than a need.

Re: Amazing deal on pre-fitted sanitary keg
Description says they’re “dip tubes”. So I would suppose the ports have the 1/2” tubes running to the bottom of the keg, possibly for bubbling into the bottom. It would work as a “thumper” I guess.

Re: Amazing deal on pre-fitted sanitary keg
I'll link all of the components of my last keg build, from top to bottom:
-6" End Cap +6"Weld on Ferrule +6"Tri-clamp +6" Gasket Sanitary set SS304 https://www.ebay.com/itm/123274872742
-1.5 inch 2 inch Tri Clamp 1 Bar Stainless Steel Pressure Relief Valve https://www.oakstills.com/productinfo/538536.html
-NEW 15.5 Gallon 1/2 Barrel US Commercial Beer Keg https://www.ebay.com/itm/273091418128?_ ... 0290.m3507
-1.5" Sanitary Tri Clamp Heavy Duty Sanitary Fittings (2 Pack )https://www.amazon.com/Sanitary-Fitting ... 817&sr=8-7
-Stainless Steel Sanitary Bi Metal Thermometer,1.5" Tri-clamp 4" Stem, 3" Dial https://www.amazon.com/Stainless-Steel- ... 180&sr=8-3
-Sanitary Butterfly Valve with Pull Handle Stainless Steel 304 Tri Clamp Clover (1.5" Tube OD) https://www.amazon.com/DERNORD-Sanitary ... 95&sr=8-10
-Blichmann Boil Coil 15 Gal / 240 v Electric Brewing Element https://www.ebay.com/itm/273780957313?h ... SwmZdZiv0k
It all adds up to $470.90. It's an apples to pears comparo because the US Lab offer is for the keg and no too useful fittings alone and the list above includes all necessary hardware to operate sans flute column and 240v controller for the element. It even has a nifty bimetal thermometer and a PRV. I work at a metal fab outfit and have at hand all kinds of pneumatic rotary tools, TIG welders + some master welders willing to weld for booze. Boss wouldn't let me close to his expensive carbide tipped hole saws so I had to get my own, plus the carbide drill bit for the element holes and a spare argon regulator and hose to purge the oxygen out of the keg to avoid sugaring the inner welded surfaces, plus the acid to help with the heat tinting, call it another $300 even.
With all tools and a pro fabrication shop at hand, it took me about a month of outside work hours toil to make all the holes and prep them with a pneumatic angle grinder and sander to mod 4-1/2 BBL kegs with welding and sanding to sanitary finish all of them. A LOT of work.
Here's a couple of pics of one of the finished kegs. This was a used Craigslist find and it didn't have the boilcoil installed yet.
Even though the 50 liter would be close to my cost I'd still prefer to have stuff how and where I want them, but I'd buy the 26 gallon one though. Install 2-15 gal. Boilcoils one over the other and put the thermometer in one of the top facing ports and the the PRV in the other. Still be a little bit cheaper than this one (when they have it for sale again, that is):
