So I told my kin (my dad and my grand) that I am gonna build a still, and my grandpa said that I need to have a cunning man etch some charms on it so that the feds don't bust it.
I Googled and I can't find anything on it or even what that would look like.
I half feel like I was just sent on a snipe hunt.
Now I don't believe in all that mountain mojo, but now that he put that bug in my ear I at least want to see some if it's a real thing.
I know that they hold to some of that in my family. My uncle Jackie claims he can "put a punkin head right on ya" whatever that means. He can also cure the short growth with a spool of binder twine, an egg and a quart of mule urine. Don't ask me how you get a quart of mule urine, I imagine that you have to put the hoof of a sleeping mule into a pan of warm water. In any event, I am neither sure that's a legitimate medical concern nore that he is qualified to address it if it is.
Anyone here have a lead? Or is the old man just joshin' me?
More important than the amusing cultural tour: Wouldn't copper etching of paleo-hillfolk pictograms harm the structural integrity?

Ole boys seen some with drawings. Problem is
don't get so attached that you wont run from it
if need be. These days they got a acid you can put
on an how quick you wipe off will determine the color.
As far as root doctors drawin on em that's one to
many folks know bout it.

"cunning man" half of this is right.
Best to have a woman to do the etching and carving.
Better yet, don't tell anyone what your doing.

I haven't found anything on what a conjure etching would look like, but I found two interesting clips with root men connected to moonshine.

What you are talking about is hex signs the old timers where into all that mountain hex and witch stuff . I even seen it in the north where I am from but most in the south alp hills.
