Called out in Holbrook
Just got back from delivering a boat to Mesa, AZ for a client. He will only let this guy work on it. Crazy but I make a couple of grand every trip so I always say yes. I will go back in 2 weeks. Ka ching. I love people who have more money than time. And Arizona has some great climbing so the SOH usually goes with.
That's the backstory.
Monday evening we pull into Holbrook and get a room as is our custom.
From there it is only a couple of hours to Mesa and Holbrook is a great little town. We always stay at the same place as they have a lot for buses and people pulling big ass boats across the high desert.
As I pull into the lot and get out a tour bus driver next to me is doing a walk around of his bus. The wife heads to the room with Ringo and I stay and do my own walk around. As I come around the stern from port he is walking towards me to his room. We say hello and as we pass he stops and says "Is that a S3 shirt?"
Seems he has been lurking for a little over a year. Runs a 10 gal pot.
Showed me pics and it is a nice setup. Made it himself. Thinks MCH is a genius. I agreed.
We ended up walking down to the liquor store for beer then back to shoot the shit and watch some football in his room. Wifey had control of the remote in our room and had to see Gary Busey try to dance.
He thinks he may sign up soon. His wife doesn't like the idea. I encouraged him to do what felt best.
Freakin Cool. All because of this site. And a t shirt.

That's pretty great. In all the hobbies I've done over the years, it's always nice to find people who enjoy the same things as you do randomly around the world. There's always that initial double take then, instant buddies. If only all forums were as helpful as this one the internet would be a more tolerable place.

That's just cool Woodshed. I think those S3 shirts will bring a lot of people out of the shadows.

Fun things happen when I find a dump truck load of badass leftover ribeye, filet mignon, and other goodies in the fridge and there's the smell of strong coffee about.
Miz Holly: "Is there something I can do?"
TP: "Yeah. Keep me company from the other side of the counter."

Re: Called out in Holbrook
I thought about this last weekend. I was up in Marquette MI, visiting my brilliant daughter, and attending a pretty great beer fest, and wished I had thought to wear my S3 colors for the event. Thought some other Michiganders might have been there, too. I do get lots of comments when I wear the monkeys, just nobody from HD yet.

That is way cool Woodshed. I would have said that is what it says does it mean anything to you?
That is not quite as freaky as is getting an anonymous letter in the mail from someone who reads your postings, used to practice, now moved from town to city and can't, and less than a gallon of gas away!
Both incidents will cause you to shake your head and wonder if it really happened!

When he found out I was woodshed he was damn near floored.
Gave him the Woodshed shirt I had with me. Might not fit him well but he was keen on it so why not.

Re: Called out in Holbrook
Man that's awesome. I barely ever wear my shirts because we have animals. The hair gets on black shirts instantly! Also the climate here dictates you don't wear much black during the summer.
Quick story time. Nobody reads my shirts. I had this shirt for years that reads "Tu eres un pendejo" and in parenthesis says "(You are my friend.)" This is Spanish for "You are an asshole." I would wear that shirt around town all over. Around people who primarily speak Spanish. Old people, young people. Nuthin'. It was frustrating at first then it became a running joke with the wife.
Then one day it happened.. We were in a bbq joint called "Bone Daddy's" where the the women are young and fit, and barely wear any clothes. This one waitress read it and thought it was so funny she went and got all the rest of them as we were trying to leave. They were all crowded around me bent over trying to read my shirt.. The boobies that were already on display were sticking out all in my face. Then they would laugh real big as if they knew what it meant. It was the one day my t-shirt paid off. It was a great day, that day...

Well kinda. He did ask for a S3 shirt but the one I was wearing is the only one I have. I have a few Woodshed shirts and always travel with one so he got that instead.MichiganCornhusker wrote:Shirt off yer back, no surprise there.
Very few Jimbo designed S3 shirts out there. Not giving mine up.

Re: Called out in Holbrook
I related this one already but for those that missed it...
A couple of months after S3:15 I'm wandering across the airfield at the Torrey Pines Gliderport in San Diego where I and some friends were flying RC sailplanes when this big guy in a paraglider harness looks me up and down and sez "Hi, (TP)!!"
I 'bout crapped. It was varocketry in town for a family reunion and he's taking a paraglider lesson. Talk about getting a bit weirded out.
