Last year a kilogram of rose or lemon balm cost about $7,000 US. If we grow the plants we can make sure it's not artificial oil and it is not that expensive to make.
I have seen posts scattered through out different forum threads and thus saw a need for a dedicated thread. Distilling is not the only method for extracting the oils but in most cases it is the best way. I am going to have a lot of fun with this so after 3 years I have started making birdwatchers recipe again to build up my neutrals for experimenting with new recipes adding essential oils to create liqueurs.

When I was doing my research into French made Absinthe, around the 1870's to 80's ...Ordinaire, which was to cheapest Absinthe allowed by French law, was criticized at the time as it was being made by Local wine and spirit distributors, who used grain alcohol, essential oils and food dyes to make it...it was also as low as 54% ABV. A shot of Ordinaire served in one of the myriad of back street Bistros in Paris cost only 5 Centime...about a nickel U.S. (pint of beer cost about the same at the time)

Update:
Bought 1000 wormwood seeds and several 100 anise seeds and none came up so will probably buy plants and try again next year.
