Mead
Do we need the Mead category on the main page?
I tend to think not.
Now that the info is mostly restored, I'm starting to think of the wiki as the home page. What does a total beginner see/need when looking for the first time.
I think it needs to fit on one page as it does, and needs to have the basic safety, introduction, theory and resources available.
Of course, the pages quickly hyperlink you into very detailed and deep territory. But the front page should be clean and not daunting.

Re: Mead
I think not...
Mead is a fermented beverage. That's not what this group is about.
But I have always been curious...
If distilled potato ferment is vodka, distilled beer is whiskey, distilled wine is brandy, and so on...
Seems every culture has a name for the distilled spirit of their choosing. Why isnt there a name for distilled mead?

I agree. I tweaked the categories which are displayed on the home page.

Does anyone ever distill mead ?
I don't think it is part of our core business.

Mead is still there, just not a featured category on the main page.jb-texshine wrote:I distill mead. Strawberry mead.raspberry mead. It's all good.Pikey wrote:Mead is a specialist category and has it's own websites as well as being included on winemakers forums.

Mead isn't a distilled spirit though, right?

Re: Mead
I blend mead I made using other resources with my distilled likker, but I didn't get the likker method off a wine/mead forum, or the mead method off a stiller's forum.
Making honey shine and corn & honey shine etc. belongs here, but that ain't mead by any stretch of my imagination.

Re: Mead
I have made a fair bit of mead in my time, I have been on various mead forums and they have a heap of detailed information. Much like this site is for distilling.
I could offer a few links to put on the mead wiki if you felt that appropriate?
