What would you like added to the Wiki?

Post by Single Malt Yinzer »

What are some things that you think are good candidates for being added to the wiki? I'm willing to work with whomever or do research on my own to find your answers. My goal is to make the wiki an invaluable resource for new and experienced distillers. The Wiki is the best place to store knowledge for easy consumption. With links to posts and articles it make a really powerful tool for understanding nearly any topic. It is also easier to find relevant information faster.

Some ideas:
- How to fix and how to determine a stalled ferment
- How to deal with a pH crash
- How to create a Dunder Pit (safely)
- What is a Thumper/Retort?

What else you guys & gals have?

Generic instructions on running common still configurations?
Common mistakes, how to fix them and avoiding those issues next time?
Construction tips, tricks and techniques?
Organizational advice for efficiency of both time and resources?

Maybe the best one yet:
A good article on thermometers. The when and where to consider them and where not to. The difference between accuracy and resolution and when one trait matters more than another. What the thermometer is telling the still operator in a particular configuration and what might affect the reading and in what way. New distillers have trouble making appropriate use of them.

Just a few thoughts. Take 'em for what ther're worth, my $0.02.

Don't know if this one belongs in the wiki but maybe what to do if there is a leak in the middle of a run and things related to that. Even the most experienced stillers get leaks but they know what to do, not the newer stillers. More so if they never heard of paste.

I only pot still, so I'll ask for help with the flutes & other packed media. Construction stuff I may be able to piece enough posts with info.

There is this one: https://homedistiller.org/wiki/index.php/index.ph ... _first_Run" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow
What else can I add that would be good to have? It's not really organizational per se, but it hits on some of the ideas.

I have this: https://homedistiller.org/wiki/index.php/Flour_Seal" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow
But I can expand on it. Good idea on explaining you can do it anytime during a run, it may not be obvious to everyone.

I'd like to see a table that generates the curves on the parent site of temps vs abv in wash and vapor. I hunted around in the forums in the past and found someone who had done an OCR capture of an old paper where it was measured experimentally, but a good canonical table of numbers with the columns of "Temperature", "ABV Wash", "ABV Vapor" would be really useful.

I know it's not exact since the wash is actually a mix of things other than just pure ethanol and water, but it sure helps me out to have it as a reference to know what to expect. I put the numbers I found in that post (not mine, I don't remember which post I found them in) into a spreadsheet and fit some polynomials to them that aren't quite the same as the parent site has in the javascript calculator. Can't attach here, but can email it if it would help.

I wouldn't mind trying to write something up on the matter, not that I'm an expert. My I PM you the text when I have something that might be worth editing?

I noticed today that there is no mention of AG or All Grain in the Glossary

They are common terms and abbreviation used .
I went to point a member there when they asked what AG was , only to find it wasn’t

And maybe similar names people use for each one.
What ones are alpha.
What ones are beta.
Iv been reading for 2 months now and the info seems scattered and vague at times.
Like I said,maybe it was just me🍻
I drink so much now,on the back of my license it's a list of organs I need.
