thanks heartcut, I didn't know you'd done similar!, wish I'd known so I could get some ideas before a started, would you mind sharing a link to yours so I can have a.looksee?. I wouldn't get much work.doing videos lol. Thanks still stirrin, it has been done before, just not so much for hobby use, one other I've seen was from.a commercial seller but didn't seem to get much interest, don't understand why!. Takeoff was 92~93%, only had a small taste coming off the still, havnt tried it after airing yet, tasted pretty clean off the still. My packed section isn't that large, so could get better with a taller column I'd guess, I've never done the highest ABV, always try keep the wash ABV down and am always happy with what I get at 90~93%. I don't drink much neutral either, so might taste shit to others lol. Thanks jar!, my books full, I'm closing it now, got what I want lol.

Did a run with both rc's going, running through plated column into packed column using a birdwatchers wash. I loaded the plated section, then backed the coolant off and loaded the packed section, ran full reflux on the packed section for 15 mins or so. Take off was a touch under 95%. Bit of fiddling with valves to get it running good but ran great once I sorted it. Have just measured it again and it's 94% after sitting an hour or so. Last run using one rc was 92~93 off the still.and 91 after letting sit. So I've gained a few ABV, taste is better and takeoff is faster with both rc's going. Needed a bit more heat with both, not much, just a touch!. Did a slap together coolant lines for the test, like cookey said, octopus

^^ Isn't it shocking how cheap a lot of the Chinese hardware is? And in many cases, it's just fine if not excellent. I wouldn't put it in a Mars Rover, but for what we do, yes.

NICE WORK!!

Congratulations: an elegant solution to the height problem that is sometimes presented by a single 3' or 4' column.

I assume that you must precisely control your cooling water flow for each column. Is this difficult?

Yeah bigswede, and they wonder why we don't support our own countries when they put such high mark.ups on products. I've found most China stuff good, just need a good supplier!. It wasn't difficult to control both lampshade, just confusing and had to think about what I was doing lol. Like running two stills at once can get busy when trying to learn how to run together lol. But I sorted it and was easy in the end, was over thinking it!.

Thanks tokoroa, lol that's the million dollar question!. We've had removal quotes last week and they sound pretty strict at nz customs about certain items. I'm to scared to ask of I can stick a still in the container when we go lol. I've been thinking of mailing it, I'm still looking into it ATM.

Googe - on that valve, does it "mix"? In other words, let's say you attach that valve to a water pump, then slowly turn the handle. Does it then begin to send say 80% of the water out one branch, and 20% out the other, varying with the handle? Or is it an "either/or" affair? All the water goes into branch a, or branch b, but not into both at the same time. Does this make sense?

I've always thought a 3-way like that would be ideal for a condenser bypass valve, where you could control the amount of water that actually goes to the condenser, with the remainder being dumped back into a reservoir.

Thanks!

Yeah but it's illegal here inglis, that's the bit I need to look into. It can be used to go into one or two branches Swede. There's two different types, "L" type, and "T" type, this is the T type. L has openings like a L and the T type has openings like a T. The pic will explain more. Yes, olddog and emptyglass used three ways on the coolant lines, said they worked good.

Beautiful work googe! Now that you've got your prototype finished you can build the real one. In the mean time I would be happy to hold onto that for you so it's not in the way.

In all sincerity that is a beautiful piece of equipment. I am eager to hear how your runs go!
