I just rolled some up as tight as I could for a tight squeeze into the column. Measure the length and cut more. Stuff the tight rolls up the column with a broom handle or similar. There's nothing very technical about it. You don't want it loose and you can't pack it so tight by hand that it would block the column. At the end, test that you can blow through the column with little impediment.
Cheers,
Lindsay.

What diameter column do you have? I used 36" long pieces rolled up to stuff into my 2" diameter column. Worked fine for me.

I use a 48" length of copper mesh rolled up and stuffed in my 2" column. Don't you find the 36" lengths too loose Grayson? Or maybe your mesh is thicker then mine. I tried a 36" length and when rolled up it just falls freely down the column.

36" length worked fine for the brewhaus mesh, but I did have to go to a longer piece (48") when I purchased from AmStat.
