spirits turning cloudy when I add water

Post by bruce jones »

Can anyone help? I have only recently purchased my first still and up untill added my water to my neutral spirits. I have used filtered water from my purifier attached to our fridge but was surprised to find that the spirits went quite cloudy.
The spirit was taken from the first 2 litres when distilling and kept separate becaust I wanted to keep this for gin and bourbon. Is there any way of gettin rid of this cloudyness ?????
Also when polishing my spirit I am using a still spirits "Z" filter which looked great in the shop but when it came time to use it I found it leaked all the time and took ages to actually run through the filter.any suggestions?
I would appreciate a quick reply to these questions as I have everything set up in the laundry and the wife is a gret spirits drinker but is not impressed with the heavy spirits smell throughout the house...so I need to fix my problems then make peace with the boss by offering her a fine (clear) bourbon on ice.
Thanks
